Update #9 · Feb 21, 2012 · 33 comments

The entire game media has gotten behind us and we're at 75K surging to hit $100K TODAY!

We're on the front page of Reddit r/gaming! When we hit the front page of Reddit, EVERYONE will say to us tomorrow, "I saw it on Reddit and backed it!"

Go this page right now and vote for your favorite story! (type it into your browser):

Oh yeah, and we're coming out on Forbes and Gamasutra and Huffington Post and a bunch of other stuff I don't have time to mention! Thank you everyone! This is our moment!

For every young mind filled with a thousand dreams waiting to be made possible, for every parent with a child in need of a mentor, for every gamer who deserves a game worth more than just playing, this is our voice to speak up for the voiceless to give everyone a voice through gaming so that the medium that we love will truly become our medium!

Today's gamers are tomorrow's game developers, making the games that need to be made, teaching the things that need teaching, inspiring the aspirations that need fulfilling, until reality's brokenness is fixed by gamers, for gamers, till we can make the world that gamers have wrought a utopian playland!

I totally did see this on reddit and that's how I became a backer. I had heard tale of this game before but didn't know where to find it to back it. thanks to all who helped make this visible to me on Reddit and thanks to all at Primer Labs for making this possible!

@Camilo the thing is, the MP sounds to some other experienced developers to be overly ambitious. Of course we can imagine how awesome it could be, and like you would definitely play what we imagine, but in reality, it seems to some that the resources would be better put into solidifying single player, in getting the word out, funding classes, putting more professional touches into the game, etc... If you take on something overly ambitious like that, it ends up squandering resources, and affects other aspects of the game, particularly as desperation to get it to work after all that investment rises.

They could still have you code new stuff in a single player sandbox mode of sorts, and could allow you to share these programs with other people. It doesn't need to have a big MMO structure to have that particular strength. Collaboration is an awesome way to learn though, and it'd be wonderful if we could have it. Maybe two player over a LAN or direct IP connection could set the bar at the right height. I just think the project expanded into Second Life is way too ambitious at this time. Maybe if a sequel/side-game focused on this aspect, it'd work out better. And they may not only have more funding at that time if this game sells decently, but would have more experience to know limitations better.

We are in agreement, it sounds awesome, and we'd play the coding MMO we all imagine. The problem with the idea isn't that it doesn't sound cool.

@Bryon Single player would be like a coding tutorial in game form, you're still getting that no matter what. Multi player would be a collaborative platform like Second Life only it would be a place where you actually code new stuff instead of prototyping it. I've never bought an MMO I've never even played online multiplayer games but I AM ALL FOR for Codehero's MMO proposition

Creator SparroHawc on February 22, 2012

@bryon: Single-player will come first, I'm sure. Multiplayer should be an addition, not a requirement.

    5. Missing_small

Creator bryon on February 22, 2012

I don't want or need the multiplayer capability. I backed this project on the pretense that it was single player. I really hope this project doesn't suffer because of the complications multiplayer will make. I think I may want my money back...

not to sound like a kickstarter hipster, but I've been a backer since before this was on reddit. lol. I was randomly browsing kickstarter a while back and this game sounded too awesome to not exist.

I'm sure you are aware that your site is down but I am so excited to try Code Hero that I had to post a comment just in case. I am glad that this kickstarter is taking off and I will be back with full congratulations when you hit $100,000!

1 K12 Code Hero School: Give your children more than a game: Give them programming peers that will engage and inspire each other. A parent, teacher, student, administrator or entrepreneurial youth can pledge to give a school of their choosing a special school-wide Code Hero access. All their students will receive school accounts for Code Hero. Teachers will be trained by the Code Hero team to be able to mentor students who can mentor each other. Code Hero School will feature advanced metrics and collaborative gameplay that will allow teachers to integrate it into making projects for every subject and class in the school. Art classes can produce game art for history projects that become simulated historical worlds with math class showing how engineering created disruptive new industries that economics class analyzes for modern parallels [HINT HINT]. Check out http://www.HackTheFuture.org and http://www.primerlabs.com/unityversity to see how we teach large groups of kids already to make and present games on their first day. NOTE: PETITIONERS WELCOME. You can pledge at this level to petition your school to try it: Call them, ask them if they will accept it on behalf of all their students. This doesn't require a school approval process or a strategy session: It just opens the door for a new kind of education through games that kids actually want and enjoy! UNCONDITIONAL GIVING: If you can't get a school to accept, you can give it directly to the students of the school to form a Code Club to provide the power of one good example: a school where every student can code fluently and create games as group projects as easily as presentation posterboards and science fair exhibits. Every state needs at least one representative that will take up this challenge to show there is no state that is not ready to become an economic powerhouse, that there is no district that can't emulate Silicon Valley, and that there is no school that can't become a flourishing entrepreneurial hotbed of student-created startups!
