We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Thank you for your generous support!

Update #4 · Jul 7, 2012 · comment

We have 2 hours left on our campaign and, sadly, we have not reached our goal.  We have learned a great deal about how we can optimize our goals for Kickstarter we will refine and reboot our fundraising efforts in the fall.  When we do, we hope you will consider supporting us again!

Just a few updates in the mean time.

T-shirts, our cool custom designed poster and our popular popuphoodies will be available for sale on our website next week!  Consider giving the gift of comfort and urban innovation or buy one for yourself and it will be a way to offer your support to continue our efforts to rethink the role that retail plays in revitalizing our cities.

The big launch of our retail application page!!!!

We had a fantastic opening for McMullen boutiques, our newest member in the popuphood at 831 Broadway.  We love the spark her fashion and style bring to the neighborhood.

Coming soon (August 3rd) we will welcome the newest member to join us: Umami Mart

We have had fantastic press and honors in the past several weeks!

Please stay connected by joining our email list and following us on twitter as we will be ramping up our efforts to secure our next location and replicate the success of popuphood in new neighborhoods in Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, SF, and San Jose soon.

Thank you so much,

Sarah + Alfonso

Marion and Rose's Workshop reflects on 6 months with the popuphood...

"It's just now sinking in that I signed a lease for the shop! This wonderful ride that I've been on with the Popuphood has been nothing short of incredible.

I am proud to be a part of this ground breaking urban project. The first six months were jam packed with hard work, tears, laughter and good times. I have met some amazing people and... learned that I should always be prepared to speak in front of a camera!!The neighborhood itself is something to take in, beautifully restored historic buildings framed by a tree lined street, outdoor seating at the many amazing restaurants and bars, and a transit score of 95 to boot!

First, I have to say, the concept of the Popuphood is spot on- timely and well thought out. Having been a part of the Oakland Art Murmur at the beginning stages, I can appreciate the similarities with the ideas of creating a community of businesses and a collective well being for the neighborhood and city. I love the feeling generated by pulling together multiple businesses with the common goal of success. Working together on collective marketing strategies and even co-sharing everyday necessities like internet service and ladders. As businesses we are invested in one another's success, a beautiful symbiotic relationship.

I appreciate the efforts of all of the makers, designers and artist I work with on a daily basis. Without them I wouldn't have a shop. One of the many reasons I love doing what I do is knowing that my efforts directly support these talented people, who in turn support other artists and suppliers.

When you sell locally, you tend to shop locally. I personally make a stronger effort to buy what I need from a local chain or independently owned business, whenever possible. Which is one of the reason's I created Plaid Friday, to be the fun and enjoyable alternative to the big box store "Black Friday", and to promote shopping at both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. As it has been noted by shop local movements like Independent We Stand, Oakland Grown and others; when you spend $100 at an independent business, $68 returns to the local community.

I look forward to a prosperous future at this location and can't wait to see what the next 6 months will bring.....Thank You Popuphood!"
