      Hi Neil-

Thanks! I will be contacting everyone on Tuesday to get their info. I had an opportunity to do a solo-show of the Word Project original art and took it. But it did consume all of my time and energy for a few days. Now it is done and I can get back to getting the book to the printer and into your hands.

Being video impaired I will submit these words.

Polly, I love that this project allowed us all the opportunity to experience the saltant joy of philanthropic sharing. The Word Project resonates on so many levels. It is so smart, quirky, beautifully crafted, giggle inducing (is there a word for that?)

One favorite word is near impossible to choose.

However, pressed to state a preference, my vote would be cast towards Throttlebottom. It is so much fun to say and contemplate its use in addressing our local mayor.

      Yay!!

Hi Polly, I think this project is very focused – a book is an excellent way to honor your artwork. I was happy to pledge the exact amount to help you reach the $4,000 mark today. I know you'll exceed that amount in the coming weeks which will help you accomplish your larger goals. xoxo

Hi Neil! I know, I am just floored! I will definitely post updates on the process- it may be that I will have to post them on my blog instead of here on kickstarter, I don't know what kind of access I'll have once my deadline has been reached. Thanks for your interest! And you'll be in the loop!

I have to lie down for a bit, all of this is making me a bit woozy...

    14. Big_avatar.thumb
Neil Martin on January 12, 2010

Wow, I can't believe that in the space of one day, you've managed to secure roughly $800 of funding! That's pretty impressive. I think it shows how interested people are in this project. Only $125 left to go with 67 days. Somehow I think you're going to easily reach your target and quite possibly surpass it! Do you have any idea what you'll do with any extra money?

Since you're definitely going to make your target, I have a request but one which you may well be doing anyway. Once you start the ball rolling on the print process, I would really love you to make more posts about the process itself. How you found a printer, what they asked for, what you asked for etc. Just an in-depth look at how you will/did go about getting your book printed. As a designer, this type of stuff fascinates me and I would love to hear about how your book is going to become a reality. :)

Hi Nichole- Thank you so much for both your kind words and for posting a link on facebook! Considering how cold it is here in upstate NY, a warmed heart is a real boon. With your help the book will become a reality. Kickstarter is a brilliant idea and the folks who thought it up and run it are absolutely sterling. The site was one of the best ideas of 2009 according to the New York Times and I agree!

Cheers and thanks again! (oh dear- too many exclamation points...but well-meant)

I'm sure this will warm your heart. I heard about this site yesterday and thought it was a brilliant idea. Came to see what I could support and found you. I think the art you are including in this book is awesome. I love obscure things and they're damn cute too. You are the first person I have backed on kickstarter and I can't wait to get my copy! I posted a link on my facebook. I work at a newspaper and a handful of my co-workers are on my friend list, so we'll see if they catch on. :D

I once spent the night at the Liverpool YMCA after mis-reading the ferry schedule to the Isle of Man. It was an interesting experience altogether.

I'm glad that it's only $15 and not $25 as I can't really afford a total of $55 but I guess I can stretch to $45. Consider me pledged!

Also, if you need any help with any graphic design-related stuff, I'd love to help you out. www.theworkof.co.uk is my website if you're curious.

I look forward to receiving my copy of The Word Project!

Neil- I had overestimated what the finished book will weigh- I weighed a comparable book and recalculated the postage- $15.00 will cover it- sorry for the misinformation-
      Hope this works for you-

      Hi Neil,

Well, that was a surprise. I had expected UPS to be less than the Post Office but I was wrong. Post Office is 25$, UPS is so ridiculously above that it is risible.

      Hope this helps,

      Polly

Hi Polly, use this for the getting a postage quote: L32 6QA

That isn't my postcode (Can't post that publically! lol) but it's a business that's literally down the street from me so it'd be the same cost. Once I've pledged though, I'll send you my actual postcode! :)

      Hi Neil-
I will have to do some research at the Post Office to see what the extra shipping charges would be- I'll look into it on Wednesday and let you know- Thanks so much for your kind words!

Hi Polly! This is most certainly the first time that I've felt such a good feeling about wanting to donate to a Kickstarter project. I would love to pledge $30 so I can receive a copy of the book. However, I'm based in the UK and realise that postage costs would need to be added onto that. If you could let me know (roughly) how much it'd cost to send a copy of it to the UK (Liverpool to be precise), that would be fantastic and I can work that into my pledge.

I have absolutely no doubt that you're going to reach your target with plenty of time to spare, as this is a fantastic project and your introduction video really made me smile.

Good luck and thank you for your help.

      Hello Kendra-
I got onto kickstarter by pitching my project directly to the kickstarter team, I still think that is the best way. I have some friends of long standing with whom I am discussing their possible projects and therefore I want to save my invitations for them. I'm sorry to let you down but I would prefer to work with friends on this.
Best of luck- again I would suggest pitching your project to the kickstarter team.

Artist's Statement:
My current work is about animation- or the possibility of it, color, texture, and how creativity can flourish within constraints. Animation in the sense of bringing alive inanimate
materials or objects, how figures articulate. Playing with color and texture for the total joy of giving
those rods and cones a real workout. I enjoy the challenge of working within a certain level
of constraint, limitations in the form of a restricted palette of materials, size limitations, thematic unity; it forces me to be more creative and makes the process a game-and an enjoyable
one at that. I see my work as little theaters, each with its own proscenium, each bristling with
potential.
