Founded by Hawaii-based husband and wife team Joseph Imhoff and Sara Tekula, Plant a Wish is a public awareness project aiming to restore native habitats around America, engaging communities and inspiring individuals to take an active role in the health of our environment. It's a tree-planting, wish-making, road-tripping adventure....and it is also a film project!
We are launching a mission to make history by being the first to plant native trees in all 50 states on a multi-part nationwide tour, and to complete a feature-length documentary film about our journey.
Since our travel plans are dictated by the planting seasons around the country, we'll be accomplishing our goal in pieces. The first part takes place in the month of June 2010, when we'll hit the road between Madison, Wisconsin and Portland, Maine (and every state in between). Future road trips are planned for Winter 2010 and Spring 2011, and will not cease until at least one tree is planted in all 50 states. (We've even applied for a Guinness World Record!)
You can follow us and help direct our focus while we are traveling through our blog at www.plantawish.org.
While the project is largely self-funded, we are hoping to raise an additional $1,500 to cover the costs of a rental vehicle. Our private fundraising efforts have already funded our plane tickets to the mainland U.S. and back for the first section of our tour.
While we are relying heavily of the kindness of friends and strangers to "couch surf" our way through the Midwest and Northeast during the first part of our project, we still need help from the greater community to afford the following:
* Rental of hybrid vehicle for 1 month (Approx $1400)
Please consider supporting us!
Project location: , HI
A tree (and your wishes!) planted on your behalf somewhere during the tour, a "shout out" on Facebook and Twitter, a "Special Thanks" credit in the film, and a link to the digital download of the finished film.
All of the above and a signed DVD of the finished film.
All of the above and a Plant A Wish t-shirt (mens, womens, or childrens...you choose).
All of the above and the item of your choice from our online store (see http://www.cafepress.com/plantawish)
All of the above and a 1-hour massage from your choice of 3 quality massage therapists on Maui (does not include travel to Maui).
All of the above and a private, educational zipline tour on Maui for you and 8 friends (does not include travel to Maui).
All of the above and a guided educational hike through Maui's native forest.
All of the benefits of $20 - $750, plus a guided trip for 4 to an inaccessible-by-the-public private waterfall on Maui that has more native flora and fauna species than anywhere in Hawaii. Also includes an Associate Producer credit in the film.
All of the benefits of $1,000, and we will visit the family member or nonprofit organization of your choice during the documentary/tour. This visit will be turned into a 3 to 5 minute video that will be posted on the Plant A Wish blog. (Must be located in the 50 United States, and there's no guarantee it will be in the final cut of the film).
