"Will Triggertrap support my camera?"

Update #1 · Jun 30, 2011 · 1 comment

Hey everybody!

Wow, I can't believe what's happening - and how fast it's all happening. It's less than 24 hours since Triggertrap was released into the wild, and so far I've had a barrage of support - not to mention a lot of fantastic backers already. Thank you, each and every one of you.

Questions!

So far, there are two main questions that have been coming up about the Triggertrap, so here's a quick project update to help answer those questions.

Oh, and I've also updated the FAQs on the project page itself, so there's some more info for you there, too.

Q1 - "How did you make that video"

I had two high-school teachers e-mailing me within minutes of each other, asking me how the pitch video was made, because they wanted to do something similar with their students.

I don't half ramble on a bit (sorry), but if you're curious to get this question answered, there's a relatively thorough blog post on "the making of" for you over on my Pixiq blog

Q2 - "Will my camera be supported"

Understandably, I have received quite a few questions along the lines of “I have camera X, will Triggertrap support my camera”?

This is actually a pretty difficult question to answer universally, so for now, I have a general answer for you:

If your camera uses a wired remote control (i.e. you can plug in something to trigger your camera via a wire), then, yes, your camera will be supported, at least for the pre-ordered Triggertraps ordered via Kickstarter. I don't care if I have to sit with a soldering iron and make the leads myself: you've all been amazing and taken the step to order something that doesn't even exist yet. The least I can do is to make sure it connects to your camera.

How this is going to pan out on the version post-Kickstarter is something I haven't really thought about yet, but it's near the top of my to-do list.

If your camera has an IR receiver for infra-red remote controls, the answer is a little bit more convoluted, but the shortest possible version of the answer is 'Maybe'. The Triggertrap does have an IR transmitter built in (I can't believe I forgot to tell you about that. Sorry), but the problem is getting my hands on all the relevant camera IR trigger codes: there are a lot of different ones out there. Leave it with me, a more in-depth update for the IR crowd will be coming up before the Kickstarter funding deadline expires. Promise!

For information-sponges, I've written a more detailed blog post about the ins and outs of camera compatibility on the Triggertrap blog.

And finally...

During the time it took me to write this, I got two extra backers, so I had to go in and update the graphic at the top of this post. You have no idea how incredible it feels to get that sort of support.

You're all amazing.

Please help the project become a reality by pressing the 'like' button on the project page, tweet about it, and e-mail all your friends.

Stay awesome,

~ Haje
