WHAT IS IT?

Last in the Meadow is about a downed fighter pilot who finds himself deep in the woods and attempts to find a way out. The silence and isolation of the forest makes him aware of the trauma he's endured, haunted by sounds of the war that he's left behind. But the roar of gunfire and artillery begin to echo across the forest, and threaten to drag him back. He struggles to separate the sounds in his mind and on the horizon as the battle moves ever closer, and eventually must decide whether to keep running or take a final stand.

This is a short film that heavily utilizes sound to tell its story and set the tone and atmosphere, from the tranquil sounds of nature to the rumble and gunfire of the approaching war to the march of a soldier longing to find his way in this world. It's an idea that's long been simmering in my head now, and after many notes, outlines, rewrites, and discussions, I finally worked towards bringing it to life. This production was made on a micro-budget scale, with previously owned equipment, favours from friends and family, a barebones team, and a fairly small-scale script. The film was shot in the fall of 2012 and is now entering post-production, with a tentative completion date of January 2013.

And here's where you all come in.

WHAT DO I NEED?

I've mostly self-financed this project from pre-production all the way to the production shoot. However, I can't add more to the budget without incurring some massive, massive debts, which is why I'm turning to Kickstarter and to you. 

Your donations will go to pay for all of post-production, which includes:
- editing,
- colour correction,
- and sound design, which is the most crucial and where the majority of the money will go towards.

If we reach past our goal, I plan to look into improving the post-production work even more, such as a dedicated colourist. As well, part of the funds would help to pay for application fees to film festivals, and a private screening for the film in Toronto to our gracious donors and loyal fans.

With all the footage on hand and an eye towards bringing this movie to festivals, I really want this to be as great as it can be, and with your help I believe it can be done.

WHO ARE YOU?

I am a video editor and motion graphic designer by trade, but have long been interested in writing and directing. I've dabbled in a few shorts, as well as a couple short features, but lack a formal experience. However, I believe that this is the perfect project to demonstrate my skill growth, as well as produce a film that I've been very attached to for a long time.

For the shoot, I worked with a very talented crew and a terrific actor, and I'm highly confident of the quality of the film and that your contributions will go to a really amazing product. I also hope that in the future I can expand more of the backstory and concepts that inform the setting and character of this film, many of which were written about but not elaborated upon.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?  

To clarify for those new to Kickstarter, here's a few things. If we don't meet our goal no one will be charged for their pledges, but if we do, you will be charged after. The rewards will obviously be sent closer to the estimated delivery date, since most require a final copy of the film. As for any specific reward details, we will make sure to contact you directly pertaining those details. As well, for any donors outside Canada, adding at least $15 for shipping would help immensely!
