Hi Kickstarters! Thanks for checking out our project.
For most of my life I have been interested in personal mobility and I have been asking the same questions all of you have been asking:
Where are our flying cars? Where are the jet packs? Where are my motorized shoes?
Well, it turns out that motorized shoes are possible! After spending years researching, designing and developing a variety of different prototypes, the miniaturization of certain technologies found in smart phones, laptops and radio controlled cars has finally made it possible for us to integrate them all into a pair of "shoes"….. so that you can go for a spin.
We are so very excited to bring to you, here on Kickstarter, our vision of what fun, personal mobility could be in 2012.
What are spnKiX?
spnKiX are battery powered, motorized skates that strap right on to your shoes. They are hand controlled by a wireless remote. All hardware and electronics are integrated into a frame made of fiber reinforced nylon. One motor and battery pack per foot.

How do spnKiX work?A wireless remote controls both feet at once. The remote straps to your hand and you can vary the throttle with the continuously variable speed control. They come with removable training wheels to help you get started. After you get some training sessions in, take them off and glide like a pro!

(hand held controller)

How will your funding be used?
We have done a tremendous amount of work so far on the design and development of spnKiX, but need your help going the last mile. We've already paid for the tooling and now all we need is the final production cost; the money necessary to actually make the spnKiX. Backers of this project will be supplying the funding necessary to place our first production run with the factory we have lined up.
When will spnKiX ship?
Now this project is funded, we expect our first production run to arrive from the factory towards the end of February. So expect the shipment in March 2012.
Are spnKiX patented and trademarked?
Yes, spnKiX are Patent Pending. And yes, "spnKiX" is a trademark of ACTON, INC. All rights reserved.
Thanks
We really appreciate you taking the time to check out our project and hope that you will give us your support.

FAQ
-
spnKiX are closer to rollerblades than any "upright, stand-on" vehicle and will NOT make anyone lazy. People will be outside and more active than before with more speed and style. This is a range extender!
-
Yes, as we and technology move forward, we will be offering upgraded battery packs. Depending on your usage patterns, the normal set of batteries may work well for you.
-
Yes, we are working with our factory on a 90 days warranty at the moment.
-
Light rain or wet pavement on the street shouldn't be a problem. But spnKiX cannot be soaked in water.
-
You can go about 6 to 7 miles per charge depending on the angle of the surface you are rolling on. Uphill vs. straightaway vs. downhill.
-
It takes around 3-4 hours to charge the battery pack. The battery packs are removable so you can get more if you need them.
-
We recommend 200lbs or less.
-
Each side has all of the same hardware components. For clarity there is an "R" and an "L" on each tail light letting you know which one to strap on what foot.
-
We have been developing spnKiX for more than 5 years. We have gone through 30+ different prototypes to get to the current design. Our focus has been on making them compact, sturdy and fun to use.
-
We do not recommend doing tricks with spnKiX, but ultimately it's up to you to decide on how you want to use them.
-
They are spelled "spnKiX", not spin kicks or spinkicks.
-
spnKiX can be slowed down in 3 different ways: You can use electric brake. You can take your finger off of the hand held controller which will slow you down pretty quickly. You can also use the stopper located on the heel, which replaces the training wheel, to slow you down. This works similar to the brake on a pair of roller skates.
