Five circus musicians are going to compose and record a full length album in 24 hours.
Cirkestra is going to compose and record 10 songs in 24 hours. It'll be released on a beautifully packaged CD. Each of the 10 songs will be based on an imaginary circus act (for example "Human Cannonball", or "Wire Dance"). That's where you come in. These circus acts are imagined by backers of the project. This has never been done before. The entire experience will also be captured on video and edited into a short documentary. The entire process from composing each note of each song, to arranging parts, to rehearsing, to recording will occur in the time of 24 hours. In the weeks leading up to the event I'm training daily by writing a song every morning with a timer ticking. See this video. This is Olympic Level Circus Music Training. On the day of the event I'll be joined by the other members of Cirkestra: Mike Dobson on drums, glockenspiel, car horn and circus toys; Lis Craft on fiddle; Niki Mariskanish on saxophone and clarinet, and Jim Gray on tuba and upright bass. I'll play accordion and write the music. Still wondering what circus music is? well have a look at this. It's not the first time we've been asked to write an impossible amount of music in a day but no one has ever set out to write and record a complete CD in so little time. The CD will be released on May 1, 2011; the traditional first day of the circus season. Your support will fund the final mastering and manufacturing costs incurred with releasing it to the world. Your involvement also allows us to use recycled packaging and a zero carbon footprint manufacturing process. We've picked this funding goal because we think it covers the basics. If you're able to support this a little more, the extra funds will be divided among the musicians, audio engineers and filmmakers who put their talents into this. No one knows what this will sound like. You're a part of that discovery. We can show the world what happens when five circus musicians lock themselves in the house for a day. We can show that the impossible is possible. We need you to help bring this music and this never-before-attempted feat to the ears and eyes of the world.
