THE MOVIE
Movies of today tend to be one-dimensional, following closely to the guidelines of one genre. Death Pact is not at all like this. Death Pact is based on the true stories of the serial killers, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng. Due to the nature of the subject matter, it does include some traits of a horror film, but it is so much more than that. Audiences will care about the characters and what happens to them. It has humor. It has a little romance. It has suspense. The emphasis will be on entertaining the audience by drawing them in, not simply shocking them or grossing them out.
YOUR HELP
The total value of the project is a little over $100,000, yet thankfully we've gotten the majority of the budget covered through contributions from the community (using locations for free, donating food for the cast and crew) as well as funding thanks to the Richards and a few key investors.
However, we still need $25,000. That's where you come in!
This project has been in development for over three years, and we know it will be something special. If we hit our target goal, we will begin shooting this July. Your donations will be used enhance the production value, paying for below-the-line costs, specifically:
- Cabin rentals
- Set design
- Costumes/makeup
- 2 Police car rentals
- Permits
- Insurance
- Equipment rental
However, if we are even just a dollar short of our fundraising goal, all of the pledges will disappear, no money or rewards are exchanged, and Death Pact will have to be postponed even further.

THE BACK STORY
One of the big news stories in the mid 80’s was about the serial killers, Leonard Lake and Charles Ng from Calaveras County, CA. They captured their victims, took them to their cabin, and tortured and killed them. This story had quite an impact on Deborah Richards, the screenwriter. She grew up going to her family’s cabin every summer, which was near the scene of these horrors. A few months ago she and her husband, Grant Richards, the director of the film, got the chance to interview the sheriff who was in charge of that investigation, and he provided even more insight to this case. The Lake/Ng case was so infamous that it created a possible copycat case: the “Speed Freak Killers,” who went on a rampage in the 90’s. These two murderers, Wesley Shermantine & Loren Herzog, have been in the news lately when more of their victims were discovered.
In Death Pact all the characters and events are fictional, but they were inspired by real people and events.
CAST
Tasha Standridge is playing Sarah, and this is her fourth film with Grant. They first worked together on Spyware, and since then they’ve made two shorts together. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3721307/
Kristina Denton is playing Kim. She grew up in the Bay Area, and she has since moved to Hollywood to work in the industry. She just produced her first feature film, Worth the Weight, which played in the Cinequest Film Festival. Additional Cast
Charles Hull will also be acting in Death Pact. Charles has on-stage experience, but this will be his film debut. Charles is an Operations Manager at AOL.
Sarah Smith is playing Jessica. Sarah has extensive stage experience and has done numerous short films.
Danny Froeming and Ryan Mull will also act in Death Pact.
CREW
Grant teaches film production at Gavilan College, and several of the crewmembers are his former students. Some of these people include Alex Thomson (Director of Photography), Ryan Wood (Gaffer), Alex Potter (Assistant Director), Kelly Kloster (Sound), Will Chavez (Key Grip), Hector Sanchez (Grip), and Jacky Denton (Production Assistant). Teresa Widdowson, who also teaches film production at Gavilan College, will be the film’s Script Supervisor and Art Director.
SPYWARE
Perpetual Picture’s previous feature film, Spyware, was written in a similar genre. The film was made on a sub-$10,000 budget over the Summer of 2007. What sets Death Pact apart is that the film will be made with no compromises in regards to the production value of the film. The ten-fold increase in budget reflects our commitment to making Death Pact the best film it can possibly be.
