An exploration into saxophone music, described as Charlie Parker meets George Gershwin, Super Mario Bros. II, and Lady Gaga.
As a classical saxophonist whose performing is an exploration into new music, I have recorded eleven CDs containing 27 world-premiers of a variety of solo, quartet, and chamber music. These strengthen the saxophone’s place in classical music, while disseminating modern music to the public and profession. One example of a recent exploration of mine is the January 2013 release of Women Composers and Their Music for Saxophone, a historical first for classical saxophone and underrepresented composers.
My latest project is a quartet and solo CD entitled Dragon. The CD contains 12 world-premier recordings by noted composers Allan Blank, Frederic Rzewski, Hilary Tann, Joan Tower, and Joseph Waters. The Master CD is complete, and the production of the CD (which includes manufacturing the discs, printing the booklets, and promoting and marketing the CD) by an independent record company will complete the project. The advantage of having the backing of a leading independent record company such as Albany or Centaur is that the CD will be guaranteed worldwide distribution and marketing.
The quartet music on Dragon is performed by the Alloy Saxophone Quartet, which I formed and lead as the soprano saxophonist. We have recorded a work entitled Spots by Rzewski.Spots constitute separate, short pieces that are influenced by commercial “spots”. They are modern, to-the-point, and are varied in their expressions. Spots was originally for unspecified quartet, and, true to my dedication to the exploration of new repertoire, I have transcribed Spots for saxophone quartet. The Alloy Saxophone Quartet will be the first to record these great pieces.
The solo saxophone works on the CD include the title track Dragon, by Joseph Waters. Dragon is a kind of concerto, but with electronics replacing an orchestra. More significantly, the composer describes the style of the piece as Charlie Parker meets George Gershwin, Super Mario Bros. II, and Lady Gaga. This is one of the most innovative classical pieces composed for any instrument in recent history. Music such as Dragon is important to classical music to show the public that classical music can be modern and up-to-date.

The Master CD is shovel-ready to go, and all permissions have been obtained. At this stage the only obstacle is raising the remaining sponsorship money for the independent record company.
