Envelope Peasant & the Scientific Orchestra are recording their collective indie folk chamber pop sounds!
Envelope Peasant and the Scientific Orchestra have invented our own genre of music. We would like to make a CD so you can help decide what that genre should be called. Let us first dispense with the matter of what is an Envelope Peasant or a Scientific Orchestra…
Envelope Peasant & the Scientific Orchestra is Sean Harrasser (the Peasant) on guitar; Texas (Melissa Patterson), cello and violin; Andy Olson on piano; and Spencer Holmes on the upright bass. They wander between various Chico homes with their acoustic instruments weaving stories out of sounds.
We started recording an album last June, and have not been able to finish due to a lack of funding. We have been playing shows and feverishly rehearsing our new songs for the studio.
We are grateful for your consideration of this project. The money we raise through Kickstarter will be used for the following:
· Recording at Origami Lounge with Scott Barwick
· Mixing and mastering
· Pressing and packaging CDs
· Epic CD Release Show in May
Music means so much to all of us and we really appreciate your support. The first Envelope Peasant album was titled “Next Year Will Be Beautiful”, and we are making sure that the title rings true by releasing this CD.
Envelope Peasant & the Scientific Orchestra began as the “solo” persona of Harvester frontman Sean Harrasser. A rotating cast of supporting musical friends from Chico and Portland soon evolved into the Scientific Orchestra.
Sean Harrasser has been writing and playing music for over three decades with bands such as the Vertels, Harvester, and Dearest, Crown. Over the years, he has been a Geffen recording artist, has toured throughout North America and has recorded a large volume of music. He has shared the stage with countless more illustrious acts (Pavement, The Flaming Lips, Archers of Loaf, Smashing Pumpkins, Simon Joyner, Horse Feathers, to name-drop a few). Yet he has stayed under the radar through most of this, and more and more this humbling journey has come to suit him. Recently, a newly-discovered musical community of highly talented comrades has inspired him to return to the active musical fold.
Since the Envelope Peasant relocated from Portland, Oregon to Chico, California the Scientific Orchestra has solidified like a batholith into an acoustic quartet that easily wanders between frolicking and introspection. Sean first met Texas at an open mic in downtown Chico, and soon a blue cello with flowers showed up. Spencer and Andy accidentally wandered into the Orchestra at different musical parties that involved pouring whiskey into firepits. Their sound has developed from a strong friendship and from a longing to create beautiful things using simple elements. We hope you will stop in on occasion to see how the Scientific Orchestra’s musical journey is progressing.
