The Pay Phone Revival Project transforms abandoned pay phone booths into meaningful and interactive art installations in Austin TX.
Mission
The mission of the Pay Phone Revival project is to restore function and communicative potential to abandoned payphone booths while also creating meaningful interactions between pedestrians and their everyday surroundings in Austin, Tx. This will be achieved by commissioning innovative artists to transform them, by using them as the epicenter for art/design interventions in the urban landscape. Through an inclusive RFP process ten artist/teams were selected for round two of the Pay Phone Revival Project. The resulting art/design interventions will transform abandoned pay phone booths into dynamic objects that inspire play, create a new function, or tell a story.

Your donation will help us pay the artists, and pay for insurance and publicity costs. For your contribution you can receive a variety of thank you gifts, including limited edition prints, tee shirts, and a private tour of the art installations.
We have the artists lined up + $4,769 in generous support + an opening celebration and bike tour planned. All we need now is the remaining $5,915 + more fans to help us spread the word!

The Pay Phone Revival Project will make it possible to exchange letters with strangers, actively enter a narrative in which you choose how to proceed by pressing numbers on a phone’s keypad, amplify your voice, watch a selection of video by Texas based video artists and charge your cell phone or laptop while you wait for the bus. This is just a taste of the incredible work to come! The art installations will be exhibited for varying durations from Februaury 2012 until Ocober of 2012. Please help us make this a reality and support Central Texas based artists.
