Tooling status update and olloclip lens progression in video mode

Update #5 · May 26, 2011 · 13 comments

We have being working nonstop to get the olloclip tooling finished and we are very close now. I have attached a picture of the tooling with the prototype olloclip on it. We are still on track to ship your kickstarter orders the end of June.

I have been asked by a few people to post a video comparing the iPhone 4 normal video with the olloclip wide-angle and fisheye lenses. I am not sure that this angle shows the difference well but the field of view of the iPhone 4 in video mode is about 36 degrees, the olloclip wide-angle makes it about 53 degrees and the fisheye is about 77 degrees. In photo mode the iPhone 4 is about 60 degrees, the olloclip wide-angle is about 91 degrees and the fisheye is about 151 degrees.

We only have about 10 days to go now and if you have any friends that you think would like to have an olloclip please let them know about this fantastic deal and that if they pre-order now they will get one months before they are widely available in stores.

Got it, that is the Steadicam for the iPhone 4, the olloclip works perfectly with that.

Hello Simone, I think you are referring to the original video on the main project page. We are using the glif iPhone 4 tripod mount with the Joby magnetic tripod.

Magnus, the video that you see in my original Kickstarter video with the red mini and the surfer getting out of the water was all shot with the fisheye. Have a look at this video to see more shot with the olloclip fisheye.

Yes, there is no vignetting in video mode because the iPhone 4 crops the image in video mode and only shoots through the center of the lens. I have some more video and will put it up over the weekend.

Wow, so the fisheye has no black areas in video mode?! I mean, I knew it had a narrower view than photo mode, but that's quite interesting! Thanks for the comparison! Would love to see it trained on a street or Park or something. Or a person walking through the frame.

Patrick... This will really help when filming on the Iphone 4. Can you recommend a good portable external mike for the IP4?

Yes, it works great on all iPhone 4 versions, GSM/AT&T, Verizon/CDMA, black & white.

Along the lines of tightness, is it compatible only with the ip4 without a case? And Verizon/ATT works? White/Black?

I only ask, because I have White Verizon... so could be double trouble.
      thanks! Can't wait to film!

      Thanks for your support!

Yes it is and it will not fall off of your iPhone 4.

Hey patrick, thanks for the update.
      That's an amazing job!
      Really fantastic esp. for fisheye.

Is it tight enough after it is attached to ip4?
