Grimm Andersen is a modern illustrated guild to Fairy Tales, Bedtime Stories, Folk tales, Fables & Mythology from around the world.
Grimm Andersen: Once upon a time is the 1st in a series of contemporary illustrated guides, featuring modern takes on well known as well as obscure characters, creatures, and stories from different Fables, Fairy Tales, Folk Lores, Bedtime Stories, & Mythology from around the globe. All the Illustarted books feature original hand drawn computer colored artwork, original images, as well as updated versions of classic Fables and characters from the entire world of Fairy Tales and Mythology. Depending on how much the goal is exceeded by, there will also be sketch books to accompany each Grimm Andersen Fairy Tale Guide Book, showcasing a variety of original character designs, sketches, as well as my unique personal take on classic Fables and Mythological creatures. Each book will be more than a hundred pages in length, while the accompanying companion sketch books will be around 50 pages (more depending on the actual amount of funding raised).
All the monies received for this project will go directly into the creation, production, promotion and self publication of the books, as well as the accompanying sketch books. To self publish and print 1000 full color 100+ page books, it costs roughly $6,500. I work and have saved every penny I can, but I just do not have enough money to complete the project on my own. The more monies I receive the more copies I will be able to print as well as additional pages/artwork I will be able to add. There will also be additional incentives offered, once my pledge goal is met and more so if it is exceeded.
I am always looking for people's feedback. Especially in terms of any art I can create to showcase my talents or if there is a particular character or story someone would like to see me re-create. Please just let me know. I will be adding several pages worth of story board art a week, as well as more of what the incentives will look like. Towards the end of the project I should have roughly 50 T-Shirt designs availabe for people to choose from ( Not all of them will be project themed though). As well as examples of what some of the original art peices will look like, and more of my 3D ceramic models that I use for my artwork (For examples see CERAMICS). BONUS ITEMS: At the $250.00 level of Pledge you will receive a special mystery incentive not shown here. Also every single person who makes a pledge (at any amount) will be elligible to receive 1 of 100 random mystery incentives as a special thank you for your contribution.
UPDATES: I will be constantly updating all the images shown here, as well as adding new artwork increasing the number of T-Shirt, Poster designs available for incentives. new images will be added several times a week until the project end date.
T-SHIRTS: All T-Shirts are printed in full color and are available in White, Biege & Black in Mens & Ladies sizes S, M, L, XL & XXL. Embroidered Hoodies are available in White, Black, & Navy in sizes S, M, L, XL, & XXL.
EXTRA INCENTIVES: I will be adding additional incentives once the project funding goal has been acheived. Please see the FAQ for some additional incentive items that could be offered if enough people want it.
INTERNATIONAL CONTRIBUTORS: If you live outside of the 48 regular United States please consider including an extra $5 to cover shipping & handling for your incentives and for T-Shirts that XXL and above in size. The majority of the monies pledged will go directly towards production and publishing costs. A small portion will go towards buying drawing and art materials, while the bulk of it will be used to cover the actual publishing costs. Which are not cheap by the way, as it cost roughly $6,500 to self publish 1000 full color 100+ page books (Buit I work as well and have been saving as much as I can).

By all means please do! Especially if you have self published a book and have any hints or tips for me, or maybe you know of a really good deal as high quality printing is really, really expensive.

A portion of the books will be donated to local schools, libraries and cultural centers in the LA area. Some of the books will also be used as promotional material at the 2012 Comic-Con here in Southern California. While the majority of them will be up for sale at Amazon.com and (hopefully) your local comic book shop. The finished version book will also be available to pledgers for a discounted price or for free, depending on how much they initially pledged.

I have been drawing since I was a little kid. I have always been fascinated with mythology from all around the world, especially releatively obscure mythology that a lot of people might never have heard of. And I have always drawn what fascinates or inspires me.

I have worked non stop since I was a teenager, and am currently a graphic artist and illustrator as well as a full time student. My specialty is custom drawn artwork, comic book illustrations, logos and custom made Fairy Tale or Bedtime Stories (Hence the idea behind the project). But between rent, utilities, gas, food, tuition and lab fees, I simply cannot pay for a project like this all by myself.

Yes quite a few actually. Some of them are secret and will be revealed here later on once the project funding goal is met, but some of them I just didn't know if people would like them or not? Such as I can make project themed Christmas ornaments, Greeting cards, or offer coloring books for those people who have children. I can also offer calendars if people are interesting in that too. Plus I can draw just about anything I see or think of, so if people want some custom drawn pieces, T-Shirts or mousepads, that is also an option. In the past I have drawn people's World of warcraft characters for them or made them in ceramics. I am totally open to suggestions.

Yes they are depending on what level your pledge is. For those people who made high level pledges, subsitutions are deffinitely possible. Though keep in mind, it never hurts to ask. It all depends on how many people request whch incentive in the end, as I want to make sure to get everyone their incentives as soon as possible, the very moment funding has been acheived .

As soon as the project funding goal is reached, the majority of incentives will go out that very day. Others will take a little bit longer, namely the ones where I am doing custom artwork or hand crafting something out of ceramics. It takes roughly a week for the firing process, and then another week to glaze and refire. Anything coming from the printers will take roughly 3 weeks. T-Shirts, Baseball Caps and Hoodies are ready to go within a week or so. I expect almost everyone to receive their incentives no later than December 2011.

I routinely design T-Shirts for clients and always do a series of holiday themed ones every year. I figured that some people would like the additional options. Within the next month or so I should have roughly 50 different T-Shirt designs people can choose from for their incentives.
