Tilt your phone to victory steering Noah's Ark in attempt to match "alike" animals in this casually-paced mobile arcade game!

In the Beginning...

When I was a kid my family would take us to the local shopping mall on Sundays. Dad would hand me a $10 bill and release me to race off to what they saw as a temporary daycare center otherwise known as Aladdin's Castle video game arcade. That was where I felt at home. I was needed by a lot of familiar faces.

Thousands of quarters later I grew up. Now sitting in front of my souped-up laptop, I type thousands of lines of code, animate hand-drawn characters, and test, test, TEST until everything feels just as it did in the early 80's when I was standing on a milk crate only to reach the controls to play Burger Time, Pac-man, Donkey Kong, and many, many other classic masterpieces.

Soup of the Day!

Our current project, Noah's Ark, is being designed for mobile devices (phones and tablets). Noah's Ark was conceived one afternoon when I was thinking about some of the greatest games I've played and what single mechanic each game contained that made it such a memorable and enjoyable experience. Stacking objects and matching alike pairs seems to never get old. Anybody can do it, and most enjoy it.

Noah's Ark puts you in control of the Ark. Using your phone/tablet you can steer the Ark left or right by tilting the device. Each level will be designed so that you have 60 seconds to match specific pair(s) of animals, which are defined prior to starting a level. Enemies will provide challenges throughout the levels.

Music. Sound Effects.

What would a game be without sounds? Keeping everything true to the old school, we are using software that was used for producing the background and sound effects for some of the greatest Super Nintendo (Famicon) titles.

Who's working on what?

Game Concept, Art Direction & Programming

....That's me. Kind of like Saruman (without the deathmetal white hair and staff), composing the elements, writing code, testing, debugging, testing, changing, testing, debugging... and on and on until everything is just right!

Game Art

Alesya is handling all of the art assets. She is an extremely talented person with a very unique quality that I was lucky enough to discover. She is the only person I've ever met in my life that draws in a style very similar to my own. Specifically, I watched her drawing a character one day while thinking to myself how I would draw that character. She was executing my mental thoughts without me uttering a single word! I find this priceless for working within a team-based environment.

Music & Sound Effects

Zach is responsible for setting the tone of this game. His love of video games and his natural talent for music allow him to translate thoughts into meaningful sounds, effortlessly. In the end, a collection of sounds and musical scores can be integrated throughout the game that feels closely tied to the theme and purpose of our efforts to produce a unique experience for you to enjoy.

Project Coordinator

Misha keeps a sharp eye on everything to make sure we don't miss any details throughout our development cycle. If he doesn't like the way the rain falls he'll make sure that we are aware there's a problem to fix :)

What's Left To Do?

As much as we are very proud of what is currently accomplished there are still a handful of things before we can stamp the seal of approval on this game. Here are the remaining tasks (in no specific order):

  • Add Shark enemy (COMPLETE!)
  • Create Pause Game feature
  • Review & Enhance all animations for game characters, menus, etc.
  • Fine tune everything until the game provides a fair challenge for everybody to enjoy regardless of skill level!
  • Throughout all of the steps above: Test & Debug for programming errors

We Dream Alike

At the end of the day, I know that the three of us share the same dream. "work on the things you love the most, using the talents and skills you've been blessed with." This game will be our first entry into the mobile game market; it will be one of the many games that we intend to develop in the near future. We are all very confident that this game will be successful upon completion. To reach our goal requires a great deal of dedicated time to meet the many milestones placed in front of us.

With Your Help

Your support provides us with the ability to focus and dedicate our time so we can utilize our collective talents to make this game. It will give us the means to complete the goal of finishing Noah's Ark. We thank you in advance for your support.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Some of the risks and challenges associated with Noah's Ark are fortunately in the area of preference and matter of taste. Questions like "Is this level too easy or should we increase the speed a little?" come up a lot.

I approach any programming requirements by breaking things down into smaller logical groups. Prior to writing any code I think of the possible "common" problems that may arise and write down backup solutions should my initial plans fail. This way if a feature does not work but is fairly important we can identify this early on in our development and make critical decisions in advance. This applies to the art direction as well as musical preferences.

In my opinion the biggest challenge in regards to game design will always be "Is this game fun?" If the initial thoughts and concepts for a game sound promising I take the first steps in quickly building a prototype for myself and others to test out. We can determine at a very early stage whether or not our idea is truly worth the time and effort.

Noah's Ark has a concrete set of requirements. Our goal is to complete this list and initially publish the game to the Android app market. I have prioritized everything so that the game can be published to provide a great experience with the ability to upgrade to newer versions with added features and other goodies!

FAQ

  • The game is going to be for EVERYONE! The beta testers for this project range from kids age 8+ to adults in their 50's.

  • The game will be for people that want something quick & casual. A person sitting in the waiting lobby for their doctor's appointment can easily start a game and stop it without worrying about things like "Great :( Now I have to go all the way back to that dungeon and find the magic sword all over again!"

This game is basically an interactive time killer similar to some of my favorite classics Pac-man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, etc.

  • The game does not have an ending as it's purpose is to provide game play similar to old arcade classics such as Pac-man or Galaga, in which players are trying to clear levels for a high score. The game IS being built so that anybody playing on their mobile device will have the luxury of game updates in which we may introduce new enemies, special items to aid the player, bonus rounds, etc. This is all being factored into the way the game is being programmed so that features like these will be a snap to implement :)
