About this project
Bi-Poseur a pop-culture encrusted, kinetic look at the intricacies of trying to hang oneself with a Playstation controller, possibly being bi-polar, full scholarships to exclusive Bay Area prep schools, psych wards with twelve year old white supremacists, finally grieving the loss of a parent, motivational speaking, to live tweeting your own funeral. And push-ups. Among other things.
Essentially, Bi-Poseur is a solo show about suicide, mental illness, and the death of my mother. But it's completely hilarious. Trust me. Seriously!
I premiered Bi-Poseur to full houses in February of this year, and I am embarking on a month long run in September. With this being 'hardcore independent theater' (as my director, W. Kamau Bell is fond of calling it) this is where I need your help. Take a gander at the list of rewards to the right. Any amount you can give will help with theater rental costs, flyer/poster/program printing, hiring a tech, lighting design, and marketing/publicity costs.
The fact that I have a show is amazing enough as is, I'm grateful enough you're reading this. I hope you're able to give, and thank you so much for your time.
For more information check out PaoloSambrano.com, follow me on Twitter (@paolo), hashtag any Bi-Poseur tweets with #paolofuneral, and like Bi-Poseur on Facebook!
Here's what the press have to say about Bi-Poseur!
Sambrano mines the depths and comes up with gold in Bi-Poseur, a one-man show focusing on “the quest for the perfect suicide note (otherwise, why do it?)” among other things. - Hiya Swanhuyser, SF Weekly
Sambrano's not trying to kill your buzz. He's trying to make you laugh. - Alexandria Regilio, San Francisco Chronicle
Sambrano’s suicide attempt was obviously unsuccessful. - KXAN, Austin
And remember: kill yourself laughing, before Paolo kills himself.

Some say that Paolo Sambrano has done more than the average twenty-three year old, but less than the above average twenty-three year old. For the moment, we’re not talking about those above average twenty-three year olds, with their college degrees, and stable jobs, and not living with their parents. We’re talking about Paolo Sambrano! He’s done stuff! Like he thought he wanted to be a filmmaker in high school, and he produced some great films that people enjoyed! He was nominated for a Golden Gate Award at the 2005 San Francisco International Film Festival, for his work on the Youth Sounds classic, “Elements” and was invited to the Sundance Film Festival! Which he attended! And he produced a documentary there!
And guess what? He is the youngest member of the soon to be internationally recognized Solo Performance Workshop! And what of “Bi-Poseur”, his first ever full length solo show that he wrote? Developed in a year! A year! About the same amount of time it took Napoleon to conquer Europe. That’s pretty cool right? Not the Napoleon thing, but writing a solo show in a year. Right? Of course!
