About this project
Ryan and I grew up as music fanatics with interests in photography. We both got to live out our passions working for Raygun Publishing - getting to meet, interview, and photograph bands that we admired. We also worked with many great photographers, and edited their shoots for publication. In the perpetual rush to make deadline, usually only a single pass was taken through the proof sheets. We're certain that there are many hidden gems contained within these files, and feel that it's time to revisit, discover, and share them with fans everywhere. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction are just a few of the bands that we worked with, and our relationships with photographers enables us to open the time capsule from 1991 forward to see what treasures await.
This project will be very labor intensive, requiring us to visit each photographer's studio and dig through boxes of film, edit and scan each image. We estimate that it will take about a year to compile a significant body of images, and though our project is largely a labor of love, there are costs associated with equipment, scanning, archiving, and getting around. And lunch.
I'm pleased to offer as rewards some images from my own photography career. I hope that music lovers everywhere will find our project worthy and exciting, and help us to expand our shared musical history through love of music and music photography.
Thank you,
Stephen.

Stephen and Ryan were editors of Bikini and Raygun magazines in the mid-1990s, where they were able to indulge in their loves of music and photography, assigning and editing hundreds of band shoots. They now plan to revisit photographers' archives to uncover more great, unseen images of iconic artists and groups of that era.
