Farm Update (Rewards, Harvests and Progress)

Rewards

Thank you for your prompt responses on your reward details. I have been busy getting the T-shirt orders in and coordinating all of the the other rewards. Rewards will be trickling out shortly by mail.

The Land

We re-submitted our farm plan to the city architect two weeks ago. Our original plan was lacking in some details. I'm hoping to hear back before the holiday on a closing date for the farm property. It's sort of anticlimactic to have our Kickstarter succeed only to have our project tied up with city paperwork. However, I have faith that the city is doing all they can to assist with this process.

On The Farm

We've already completed our first full harvest of our beds and have already reseeded/replanted the majority of the beds. We've already harvested well over 200lbs of produce! The drought situation is quite intense for us, as we need to still import our water to the site until we can get water service established at the farm. We are anxiously awaiting a nice crop of dragon tongue beans, purple podded beans, heirloom tomatoes and several variety of eggplant and squash.

We raised $7,445 on Kickstarter

Thanks so much to everyone! Our kickstarter campaign ended just seconds ago. I thought I should stay up to see it through. Now it's time to rest up for the tough work ahead.  Rewards are forthcoming!!

Final Days on Kickstarter! New Rewards!

We have just 3 days and 11 hours left on our Kickstarter campaign!! Thanks to our backers, this has been an amazing campaign. Not only have we met our goal but we have quite a bit over to go towards a fence for the property! Since we've had such a great response, we've added a couple new reward levels.

$100 Reward: Heirloom Seed Collection - This collection of heirloom seeds should get you started growing as local as it get- your own yard!

$750 Reward: Urban Farmer Bootcamp - Learn what you need to know to get started growing for fun or for profit. 12 hours of one-on-one instruction or 8 hours of phone/video chat instruction. Plus a valuable workbook with templates and instruction.

The lot is currently open on all side, we've had a few people help themselves to our things, drive through the lot and also cause a little damage. A fence would really help us now.  If we can get our total to $9,300 we would have enough for the lot AND fence.

You Did It!!

You Rock!!

At 9:15 a.m. CST yesterday we both met and surpassed our goal!! Thank you to all of our wonderfully generous backers that made this possible. We are so excited and have already submitted the required paperwork to the City and are waiting to hear back on a closing date!

However, we still have 9 whole days left until the campaign ends. Any additional funds collected will go towards:

  • A fence to keep both crops and chickens secure ($2,800)
  • Out of pocket amount for irrigation ($2,500)

Our First Week

Week 1

What an amazing first week we've had. We've already meet 69% of our goal and have only $1985 yet to go! Thank you to all of those that have backed our project and those that continue to spread the word through real and virtual, social networks. Thank you for inspiring others to support local, sustainable agriculture with your support of our project.
