Philadelphia's tango and contemporary music ensemble, Oscuro Quintet, wants you to be part of its first album release.
Oscuro Quintet was founded in 2006 in pursuit of tango tradition and creation of new music. As Philadelphia's first tango music ensemble, Oscuro is comprised of musicians from diverse and unorthodox musical paths. Their unmistakable sound embodies the international rhythms and influences of tango, jazz, and contemporary music.
After performing extensively in Philadelphia area, from dance floors to the Philadelphia Art Museum, we decided it was time to capture our sound in recording and take our music to a bigger audience. Oscuro entered the Buckeye Recording Studio in the fall of 2010. With the help of engineer Peter Richan, 13 pieces were recorded, edited and mixed. Yet the true test came when it was time to find the right label to release our first album, which is one of the toughest challenges for unreleased artists these days.
After an exhaustive search, we accepted an offer to release our album on PARMA Recordings, whose work spans classical, contemporary, jazz, rock, blues, film, and custom audio, with an excellent distribution in both US and Europe through Naxos. The anticipated album release date is Fall 2011 and to give you an idea, listen to an excerpt from our unmastered recording.
So this is where you enter the picture. Please help us raise funds to cover the album release process: mastering the recording, designing the album, CD manufacturing, marketing & promotion, licensing, etc. We have been fortunate enough to finance our project so far, and now at the last leg of the journey, we need the help of friends and supporters like you to complete the whole endeavor.
You can support us at several pledge levels that come with unique gifts. They range from pre-ordering the CD to an exclusive private concert with Oscuro Quintet. Our friends Lesley & Kelly at DancePhiladelphia, Marc & Krissy at Urban Tango studios, and our favorite Argentinian restaurant Hoof +Fin are also on board with gifts that will bring even more enjoyment to your support.
Speaking of friends, we would like to send special thanks to David Romberg for shooting and editing our videos (both on kickstarter and Oscuro website), Peter Richan for his talent and dedication, and JJ Tiziou for great images.
Check out our website, facebook page, tell your friends and family about us, and help us spread our music through this recording!
