About this project

Hey everybody! Thanks for checking out my project!

Here is the link to the second video: ( http://www.vimeo.com/13273903 ). I apologize for the glitches on 0:24 and 0:37 - 0:40...there was a problem with the upload. I also apologize for the stuttering, of course I thought I can naturally tell you my ideas. Nope haha.

Here is a quick question. Ever discovered something that is so true and so beautiful that you are compelled to experience it as long as you possibly can?

This is how I feel about ENGAGED. "Engaged" is a story about Wayne, a man who has one resounding flaw, he loves to film the beauty of his life behind his camera all the time. This gets in the way of many things, most importantly his family. The film is only shown through the footage captured in this camera, therefore the dialogue and situations will reflect this realistic standpoint. It takes many moments and many years for people to mature. I honestly don't believe that real people find one moment to change, so why should our movies follow that route? That is probably the question I want to explore and a major reason why I chose this project. After nine months and countless revisions, it is easy to see why I love this project so much.

The second video that I refer to in the introduction will explain it with more detail.

I had a terrible incident this March in which a bank took away a grant, and my actors and crew were left stranded. Production was about to start. Now it is July, and I am still trying to start filming. The budget is already figured and all I need to do is satisfy it. This is where you lovely people come in.

ENGAGED is a wonderful tale written by Shelly Lanciani. She is an amazing writer and many of her works have been produced and made it to many festivals. She is an exciting personality, always challenging herself and a marvelous mother. This reflects in her writing, which you can see at http://storybyshelly.blogspot.com/.

Following this idea of being personal and family, I feel that all artists make one big family, because of our determination to build ourselves through our constant collision with others (life). So I am giving you a little bit of me with my rewards - my conceptions and some behind the scenes features to give you a lighter view of production. My dad's first novel, which I am so proud about, is a magnificent achievement in itself. For years, my father was the perennial teacher, teaching others for fifteen years until finally marrying my mother when he moved to America. The book is called "Ajax and Tale of the Sucoyan."

Here is the foreword:

"Ajax and Tale of the Sucoyan is a historical fiction. Basically, the story consists of two parts. 'Ajax' is a collage of childhood pastime, Sunday School, passing classes, and memorable characters. 'Tale of the Sucoyan' is about a superstitious belief in the existence of sucoyans and other unnatural beings.

Ajax's mom and dad ensured that their children developed a sense of pride, decency, respect, selflessness, and high moral values, in spite of negative distractions of their environment. His mom, Medina, was a strict disciplinarian and did not compromise the importance of education and living in a decent neighborhood.

In the folktale of the sucoyan, the local residents of McKenzie, a bauxite town, twisted the death of Lady Mora, through constant gossip, into a tale of a sucoyan (Vampire). The behavior of the villagers was observed by Ohini, the Elder of Ancestors' Village.

The villagers were descendants of runaway slaves. Through the years, they developed a lifestyle that made them self - sufficient and independent. They maintained the beliefs and culture of their ancestors and did not give in to the dominating effects of the monstrous Bauxite Plant on the lives of the local residents.

Structurally, the book can be regarded as several short selections that are connected by Ajax's flashbacks, and in some cases, flashbacks within flashbacks. This style may encourage literary discourses about destructuralism in literature..."

My personal opinion is that, and I am in no way a literary critic, AJAX shows strains of Salman Rushdie (Midnight Children, Shame) and Tsitsi Dangarembga (only based on one book, Nervous Conditions). I only say this because I love their writing, and he is so similar with his approach and themes. I am not saying that he is at their level of storytelling, they are awesome. However, please read it, because it is a fantastic read. I am sharing this with as many literature enthusiasts as possible!

So please, look at the rewards and help this project get off the ground. Over the last nine months, I have tried banks, friends, business owners and family; only to receive $400. I will be moving from New York late October and I would really love to get something like this project made -- something personal and completely shows the world what I am about. I am all about sharing and giving back, and I am positive that this is the right website for my incentives.

Thank you so much for reading,

Orin Cameron.

All of the above, plus a signed copy of the script with all of the crew and cast, and a brand new copyrighted novel from my father called "Ajax and Tale of the Sucoyan." It is still unpublished, not because it has been ignored, but rather my father rejected three offers in the matter of weeks due to artistic integrity. Foreword from the book is in the ABOUT THE PROJECT section.
