About this project

Our small organic flower farm is ready to go nationwide! We are launching a web boutique to sell our flowers online - making organic flowers that are truly direct-from-the-farm available across the country - and need to obtain funding for packaging and web design from some other source than my sweet city-boy husband, who, incidently, has been more than supportive thus far. I have been growing for over 7 years and selling locally, both retail to the public and wholesale to florists and designers. Having seen what's available in organic flowers on the net, I think our product would offer a great alternative - one that offers an eco-chic product and with mom-and-pop service and charm at the same time. For eco-conscious consumers who don't want overbred greenhouse roses from South America and who don't want to contribute to farms that create a luxury product at the expense of the global environment, our flowers would offer an affordable and quality alternative. I have worked with a packaging company to come up with innovative packaging that is eco-friendly AND keeps our flowers from being smushed during transit. We are seeking $2000 to buy our packaging and make our organic flowers available throughout the US.

We grow and sell top quality flowers like tulips, lilies, roses, sunflowers, dahlias, ranunculus, asters, hydrangea, and over 40 more. We use cool sustainable growing practices like cover cropping, organic fertilizers (including all-you-can-stand poop from our flock of pastured chickens), integrated pest management and OMRI approved pest controls, composting and creative weed management.

With a large company like Organic Bouquet out there already, we are definitely the underdog. But, we hope to stand out because: our flowers are ALL actually certified organic, we are a small domestic family farm and a woman-owned business to boot.

I am a 38 year old farmer growing certified organic cut flowers on our 7-acre farm in Virginia. I am a mother of 4 crazy kids and have been growing cut flowers for over 7 years. I am a member of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers and owner of Back Bay Flower Co. and will be launching Roost Flowers and Designs - an online flower market - in early 2010. I love farming, organic growing, my kids, chickens, running, design and pretty things, and general organized chaos.
