Music World is a web-based travel series that introduces viewers to an eclectic variety of music from around the globe. In the first season of "Music World," I traveled to Buenos Aires and met the young musicians behind the current tango renaissance. From street fairs to loft apartments, I captured the bohemian movement with an intimate and minimalist style.
Based on the warm response from that initial run (see press below), I think it's time for the next leg of "Music World."
With your support, I'd like to bring the series to Greece and feature the rebetiko music scene of Athens. Rebetiko is the music of the Greek underground. It originated in hashish dens at the turn of the 20th century with refugees hailing from Asia minor.
Today, there are a number of venues and artists in Athens keeping the legacy of rebetiko music alive. With "Music World," I plan to tell their story.

Here are some nice things people are saying about "Music World:"
"Como un antropólogo musical, el Joven Oresti Tsonopoulos recorre el mundo fotografiando y filmando artistas nuevos o perdidos. Se vale de sus millas de viajero frecuente, su franca capacidad para socializar y un gusto inapelable para hacer justicia cultural, cámara en mano."
"As a musical anthropologist, the young Oresti Tsonopoulos travels the world photographing and filming new or oft-missed artists. Using his frequent flyer miles, his natural ability to socialize and his insatiable tastes, he does culture justice, camera in hand."
Juan Ortelli - Rolling Stone Argentina [Print edition, February 2011]
"Oresti Tsonopoulos films to a different beat. His fresh and new web-based series titled Music World documents all of those scenes most people want to uncover but don't know where to look… Tsonopoulos pieces are optimistic and full of life. He lets the musicians do the talking, only interjecting a few thoughts along the way. He may be onto something as his pieces from Buenos Aires feel real, gritty and, most of all, original."
Scott Burgess - Hipster Travel Guide [http://is.gd/DNuDXU]
"Armed with wine, Spanish fluency, and a digital SLR that shoots HD video, Tsonopoulos made a different kind of music documentary: guerilla-style, and utterly spontaneous in subject matter."
Jake Moore - NYU Local [http://is.gd/wVUfCd]
"Welcome to the world. It wasn’t too long ago that the separation between countries was apparent. Mixing of culture was born of intrepid, individual, influential travelers injecting their influence into foreign populations. With the advent of the internet, the world became border-less, and globalization took a foothold. Although this wider world is within several strokes of the computer keys, much of it still goes unnoticed. It still takes those intrepid travelers to open the eyes of the people. One of these travelers is Oresti Tsonopoulos. This is his Music World."

Thank you for your time and generosity, I hope this is the first of many adventures we take together.

All of the above and I'll give you my bouzouki which I purchased in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki five years ago. A bouzouki is a lute-like instrument which is key to the rebetiko music genre.
