Design update

Update #6 · May 31, 2012 · comment

First: With only a few hours to go, the PressurePen campaign has reached its goal of $10,000! Thanks to everyone that helped spread the word, blogged, liked, tweeted, and generally helped proselytize my little project. I'm looking forward to seeing what you will create, once the styli get in your hands.

Second: I'd like to update everyone with a quick teaser of what the PressurePen you will receive will look like. So far, all the demo videos and photos have been using the "rev 1" prototype shell. The other day, I met with the designers at Gamil Design about revision 2. In addition to some changes on the inside, the shell will be getting slimmed down and streamlined a bit.

You can see in the image below that the new design (left) is narrower and less tapered. This is made possible by some slightly smaller components on the PCB. Don't worry: they should all still be easily put together by hand, for those ordering the Hacker edition kit.
