Update #8: A pile of OOTW goodness
Here it is, a pile of OOTW. It took me back a bit when I put all the pages together tonight and checked it out. I like to print everything out locally (I assume most do) to see how the story reads, change anything that needs fixin’, and to just love the creation.
After all, if we don’t love what we’re creating, why do it?
How refreshing, when your work comes together at the end.
Peace!
Update #7: Another colored OOTW comic!
The next cover came through earlier today and is looking pretty grand.
It’s exciting to see that we are well on our way to getting these bad boys printed. Been a long time coming, will be nice to see the final result when we get them back.
Getting back to work though, still have to finish issue #4 and continue the start of the OOTW webcomic!
Talk soon! In the mean time, check out and enjoy the cover to issue #2!
We get to see Max, his folks, Samantha and Sydney for the first time on a cover! Woot!
Update #6: Out of This World #1 Colored Cover!
Gosh darn do I love getting e-mail from Steve and Jamal.
Wow. As a writer it's always a great experience to see an idea that was locked in your head transformed in to a wonderful piece of art. Basically, as a person with no artistic talents, its great to see someone with great artistic talent.
In this piece Steve and I wanted to portray a literal "out of this world" experience for Max. I mean, what screams "out of this world" more than actually being blown off of the face of the earth?!
So here's to the first issue, time to slap the logo on, wrap it up and go to print!
UPDATE: Yes, I did start this post with "gosh darn". ;)
Update #5: Even More Covers for OOTW!
Excited to post these bad boys up. Will be even more excited to see the colored versions of them which will be arriving in my inbox (in my inbox?) in a day or two.
On this cover we get to see some more characters that are featured in the book. His folks. His dog. And of course, one of my favorite characters, Samantha. She's a cool gal.
And an ode to my now deceased dog, Sydney, who makes an appearance throughout the comic as Max's dog. It's name? Sydney of course. RIP Syd!
Hope you like it!
Update #4: New Cover Line Art
Even more cover goodness! Steve is knocking these out of the park. Love the fact that Max is literally being blown off the planet and out of this world.
Will look even sweeter once Jamal gets his hands on it and colors it all up…
Update #3: New Out of This World Cover Ideas
We've recently made the decision to release the next volume of OOTW as individual comics as well as the collected trade paperback which was our initial plan.
As we looked at the 70+ pages that we now have completed it became very obvious that they all work as single issues since we were breaking the book up in to 23 page chapters.
So with the summer comic convention season upon us we are gearing up for some actual OOTW printing goodness!
Below are some cover ideas for the first two issues. I'll be posting the ones we picked and the final versions soon.
Update #2: The first issue of Out of This World #1 is up on ComicSpace for free!
I recently posted the first issue of Out of This World up on ComicSpace so people can get a sense of the characters and the world which surrounds the Out of This World universe. It's fun, shows off the skills we were helping kids learn about and some amazing art by Eric Erbes, who worked on the first four issues.
Steve and I are still working on the webcomic and new volume of OOTW. We get more excited everyday.
So make sure to check out Issue #1 at: http://www.comicspace.com/kidscomics/
Update #1: Never Touch Transportational Residue!
This is page 21 of the graphic novel. Max is still on the planet Earth before reaching out and touching the Transportational Residue which sets off this explosion that you see here.
When he wakes up he finds himself in a not so friendly place on a not so friendly planet.
So I repeat:
Never Touch Transportational Residue!
Your welcome.

Hey everyone, hope all is well. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of Kickstarter.
So, where do I begin.
Well, for starters, I wear a couple of hats. Mental health counselor. Writer. Comic book creator. Letterer. Most important of my hats of course are daddy, husband and son.
As a mental health counselor who has been working with children and families for over 10 years now and a lover of comic books for most of my life, a while back I decided there needed to be some comic books that could be used to help kids work through some of the major issues of their time.
Since I had never created a comic book before I just had some rough ideas and moved on with my life (getting married, finishing grad school, having kids, you know, the easy stuff!)
At some point the idea came full circle and I had a couple of opportunities to get my ideas published. To make a long story short, I had four comic books developed and published earlier this century (sounds like a long time ago doesn't it).
Since then I've continued to have the writer's itch to get back to the characters and do some comics based solely upon entertaining kids. Kid friendly comics if you will. Life events (the good kind; marriage, kids, starting a counseling center) kept my free time to explore more writing adventures to a minimum.
Until Steve and I met one day. A local artist. Interested in drawing OOTW. Where we could actually sit down and chat. And his style for the project is exactly what I was hoping for. Perfect!
So I started polishing off my plots and scripting out a story.
Which pretty much brings you up to speed on everything OOTW related.
I hope you enjoy the books. Make sure to grab one for any kids you might know.
And hey, feel free to drop me a line if you have questions or just want to chat comics.
