Woah, we're funded already?
Wow, it's not even the end of day 2 and we're already over 140% funded. We didn't expect this kind of success at all! Thanks to each and every one of you for your support. We hope we can give you a kit that's as awesome as you're hoping for, and we're prepared to work hard to make it great.
We're rapidly getting more orders than we expected, and more than we realize we can handle within a short time frame. We're capping the initial batch to 100 of the 110V version and 50 of the 220V version. If you were one of our very first backers from outside the US but you haven't yet switched your reward from the 110V version to the 220V version, please do so now, before the first batch sells out. We're calling the next batch the Late Worm Special, and we expect to fulfill those orders by March.
You might be interested in what's on our to-do list in the coming weeks:
- Looking further into suppliers of spun toroids. Spun toroids are made from two pieces of aluminum that are spun on a lathe against a form (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quvLVeWS3N4). All the nice coils have 'em, and we want to be able to supply them for you.
- Investigating the possibility of a standalone interrupter. Several backers have asked about this. A standalone interrupter let the coil run without a MIDI source. It wouldn't play music, but it would let the coil fire away with barely any setup time, which is great for things like classroom demonstrations.
- Building more kits and testing them to death. We want to put more hard numbers on the limitations of the coil, such as how long it can run at full power without overheating. We'll gladly share pictures of spectacular failures.
- Making instructional videos. We want the documentation to be as clear and thorough as possible, so in addition to the manual, we want to record some videos of the construction process and explanations.

Oh sweet!

Mitch, the toroid in our videos is in fact from that guy on ebay, I believe. He sure makes beautiful toroids! The dimensions are close enough to work.

There's a bloke on eBay selling 8" x 2.25" spun toroid's, they are $88USD tho, i bought one for my EVR microbrute kit and it is nice:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-25-x-8-Toroid-Tesla-Coil-for-Neon-Transformer-/360480063484…
This kit uses a 8" x 2" which is only 0.25" smaller than the eBay one. The eBay one ad's only 0.06pF capacitance to the secondary too.

Casting my vote for spun a spun toroid and standalone interrupter options.

That would be great if you added spun toroids to our kits.
