A detective investigating his own murder discovers multiple versions of himself—not all of them friendly.
Please join us in making "Omphalos," a sci-fi thriller and ground-breaking indie film.
Darius Lefaux is a gumshoe detective. His career is in shambles, his romantic life comically void, his only real human connection a cantankerous old woman who lives next door.
One day a murder comes in, and Darius is summoned to view the body. But there’s something very strange about this one. The body is ... him. The body is identical to Darius.
Memories begin to haunt Darius, fragments of events that don't make sense. As the plot thickens, more duplicates of Darius emerge. One version is trying to kill him. In a race against the clock, Darius sets out to find this other self before it finds him.
Meanwhile, John Luka—an old ally of Darius and an eccentric, out-of-work juggler—learns that his friend may be in trouble. We learn that Luka was involved in a time travel experiment run amok, left scarred and destitute by the ordeal. Re-invigorated by the chance to help his friend, he sets out in search of Fyodor Wax, the father of the experiment, hoping Fyodor will lead him to his "brother Darius" before it’s too late.
As Darius chips away at the case of his multiple selves, he is reunited with Alise, a beautiful woman from his past. A long-buried, yet troubled, romance is reignited. More memories surface—from a life they once had together, a life interrupted by an accident on a desert road ten years ago. When Luka finds Darius, the two men learn more about their shrouded past and the scientific experiment that links their existence, and it's suddenly clear what has to be done.
Darius and Luka journey to a secret site called “Omphalos,” where they hope to put a stop to the disastrous experiment that may be at the root of their troubles. But the road to "Omphalos" isn't quite as it seems. The journey outward becomes a journey inward.
A riveting sci-fi premise, bare-knuckle suspense, and startling visuals are only the first layer of a story that succeeds on a deeper level—about the mercurial, complex nature of identity and the longing for love and the simpler time of youth.
In a dazzling narrative told with textural richness and depth of art-house cinema, the best elements of pulp science fiction, and the scope of a Hollywood action-thriller, "Omphalos" follows in the footsteps of Darren Aronofsky’s indie classic "Pi," with a bit of Christopher Nolan’s deliciously entertaining "Inception" thrown in for good measure.
"Omphalos" is award-winning director Gabriel Judet-Weinshel’s feature debut. Judet-Weinshel’s short films, music videos, and commercial work have screened throughout the world at over 100 festivals, and been seen on MTV, Nickelodeon and The Sundance Channel. Of his work, the Seattle Weekly writes, "his dazzling archetypal images . . . have a stunning authority that actually pull forth a mythic power."
Judet-Weinshel is joined by the producing group of Red Giant Media, helmed by Independent Spirit Nominees Isen Robbins and Aimee Schoof ("Brother to Brother," "XX/XY"); the celebrated actor Edoardo Ballerini (“Boardwalk Empire,” “The Sopranos,” indie hit “Dinner Rush"); riveting performer (front-man for the band Trial) Greg Bennick; casting directors Sig de Miguel and Stephen Vincent (“The Good Shepherd,” “Rabit Hole”); award-winning DP George Nicholas; consummate line producer Ty Walker; resourceful and inspired production designer Laurie Krupp ("Day Zero"); and F/X master Aidan Fraser (“Pirates of the Caribbean,” "Star Wars").
THE HISTORY OF "OMPHALOS" - FROM OUT-OF-POCKET TO VARIETY
"Omphalos" began as a hand-made, highly-personal film two years ago. Early tests and scenes were shot on weekends and financed out-of-pocket. From there it has grown into a full production, catching the attention of investors, industry professionals, even receiving press in Variety.

"Omphalos" is a low-budget film, but it won't look like one. The project has been blessed to receive an incredible amount of in-kind services, invaluable donations of resources, and an outpouring of professionals offering themselves at greatly reduced rates. We are already in pre-production in our offices in New York, and well on our way to making the film that started two years ago. Principle photography begins August 15th.
We're asking for your help in making "Omphalos" even better. It may not seem like we're asking for a lot, but with this team, a little goes a long way. And please, share our project with everyone. Spreading the word is crucial to our success.
Remember, if our minimum goal is not reached, we don't get a penny of what is raised. So please—don't be shy.
