About this project

What is the Dying Dimension?

Across the Dying Dimension, two armies fight a deadly war, even though the battle itself destroys the cosmic lands they both claim to own. The shape of the dimension is different every game. The formation of the armies is different every game. You are an Immortal, and must lead your champions to destroy your sworn enemy as reality collapses around you.

Who am I?

My name is Oscar Baechler. I’m an artist from Seattle with a background in 3D and game design. I make 3D graphics using Blender, a free and open source 3D program, and also run Seabug, the Seattle Blender User Group. The goal for the Dying Dimension is to use 3D printing to manufacture top-quality figurines for the game, with an artistic theme of cosmic magical warfare. If you play any RPGs, the figurines will also function as excellent miniatures in other games.

How do you play?

The Dying Dimension is built out of several ideals. Like chess, it is a war of geometric problem-solving. Units have scaling values, resulting in good and bad trades. The unique movements in Dying Dimensions result in the pins, forks, tempo checks, and skewers that make Chess beautiful. But unlike chess, the board and units start every game differently. This results in original, dynamic gameplay every match, rather than tedious memorization of openings. Lastly, the board shrinks as you play, making claustrophobic combat inevitable.

Funding and Manufacturing Goals

My goal with Dying Dimensions is to manufacture a quality board game project, where I will contribute professional quality graphic design and miniatures. The miniatures will be modeled in 3D and printed with a Makerbot 3D printer. Your contributions will go toward several things. First, it will fund basic living expenses such as food and rent while I work on this project. Second, it will fund the manufacturing and shipping costs for the board game, and at most contribution levels you will recieve one of these products. Third, I hope to have a handful of copies of Dying Dimensions to distribute to game publishers.

Please help fund my Kickstarter project, and together we can make Dying Dimension a reality. Stay tuned at dyingdimension.blogspot.com for production diaries, strategy discussions, concept art and playtesting examples.
