About this project
Electrocity crew and several friends are trying to raise funds to make a beautiful new art space and we need your help! We are planning on making some amazing improvements but first a little about the space. It's on Broad Avenue in Memphis, which is a great old neighborhood that the community is working very hard to turn into an arts district. The building is 1500 square feet and is in really good condition. We have been cleaning and repairing things over the past week but it needs much more work in order to be a proper art gallery. New sheetrock, light fixtures, toilets, and much more is needed. The other great part about the space is that it has a lovely fenced in back yard. We are imagining this to one day be an outdoor movie theater for the neighborhood. Memphis has a rich film history and we would love to celebrate that by showing occasional movies for free in the yard. Below is a list of things we would be looking to purchase with the money from Kick Starter.
• New sheetrock for gallery.
• New track lighting for gallery room.
• Outdoor Seating.
• Outdoor movie screen.
• Floor paint and outdoor paint.
• Projector
• Indoor Fans.
• Speakers for outdoor movies.
• Security lights for front and back of building.
• Bathroom upgrades.

Mission: Odessa’s mission is to enhance the cultural experience of its community by providing forward-thinking emerging artists with an open environment for cross-disciplinary experiments.
It is also a non-profit arts and music venue specializing in new media such as video, performance, installation, and sound. Odessa also hosts shows for musicians engaged in making forward thinking music in many genres, including electronica, psych, ambient, folk, noise, and everything in between. Located in a burgeoning arts community in midtown Memphis, Odessa’s mission is to enhance the cultural experience of its community by providing forward-thinking emerging artists with an open environment for cross-disciplinary experiments.
As of May of 2010, Odessa is now owned and operated by Matthew Ladner, Brandon Thornburg, Taylor Dawson, and Ashle Bailey. We have great plans for it in the future and are currently working on renovations to enhance the space for both artists and audience.
