 Headed to rehearsal in 2005, I spotted an old man on a city sidewalk dressed in pleaded pants and brown loafers. He wore a plain brown baseball cap, thick-rimmed eye glasses and a plaid shirt. He danced quickly on the pavement, mapping out a dance step he had learned what seemed to be ages ago. Most ignored him while some stared and laughed, but he didn’t care. Others threw money on the ground.  “I don’t do it for the money. I do it for the love.”, he stopped and shouted. 

  In love with that statement, I asked him his name. “Art.”, he said. Art showed me a couple dance steps and I was on my way, leaving him to continue his performance. I never saw Art again. As I arrived to my rehearsal, late (thanks to my curiosity and Art’s mini tutoring session), I began to ask myself, “Who was Art? What was his life before now? Who takes care of him? Do they know where he is? Would they approve?”. What happens when the limelight fades?

This was how “Nostalgia” was born.

  It’s now 2011 and those questions have turned into a story that I am extremely proud of. “Nostalgia” takes two men on a journey as they encounter love, forgiveness, regret, resentment and acceptance. As I’ve asked others to join me on this journey, I now ask you. We need your support and I’ll make it plain, we need your  financial support too. That is where you and KickStarter come into play. Though we have a good portion of the budget gathered, we still need more. Lighting, sound, cameras, locations, actors, crew, permits, make-up, costumes, film festival submissions, etc. Every cent, every dollar counts, and your donations will not go unrewarded. See the rewards given with each donation on the side.

  With a great script, talented cast, crew and you we can create something that WE as a dance and film community can be proud of.  Take a closer look on the back of the postcard enclosed and see how and where you can donate to the film. Thank you. Be well, and keep dancing!

Come on this journey with me and be a part of something so special I can’t even really put it into words (but I’ll try). The seamless merger of dance and realistic drama. Yes, it’s been done before, with “The Turing Point”, “Black Swan”, “Fame”, “Dirty Dancing”, “White Nights”, and “Tap” to name a few.  With a talented cast and crew and yourself we can create something that will be shorter, yes, but just as meaningful. 

The glory dance of the dance musical. Boy, it was something special. Bringing tap dance to the world and telling OUR story and SHARING it with the public is a must. It's been way too long and tap is an artform that is NOT dying. Giving tribute to our legends and telling the stories of them. Good or bad. Right or wrong. Bill Robinson, John Bubbles, Sammy Davis, Fred and Ginger, Teddy Hale, Jimmy Slyde and LaVaughn Robinson just to name a few.
