8.31 - Short Film

our story

It is the last day of life as we know it. A catastrophic global event is set to occur and scientists have pinpointed its date. The sun will extinguish itself on this day, and the world will have only 8.31 minutes of light left. As it draws near, we focus on a pregnant couple who have gone into labor during those final minutes before darkness strikes. With a world falling to pieces around them and the accompanying riots, lawlessness and crime, how will they reach the hospital? And if they safely deliver the child, the greater question remains: how will they raise a child in a world where humanity's time has become finite? 

Part sci-fi and visual effects thriller, mostly heart and character drama, 8.31 is an examination of what makes us human against the backdrop of a mankind's possible end.

our team

Utilizing frequent collaborators, and favors from professional film and television artists, we will create a groundbreaking short film. We want the visual effects to be a seamless backdrop of the near future, while focusing almost entirely on story and character. With so much happening in the world right now, we were inspired to write this story based on the premise of recognizing what we hold dear while everything else falls apart. 

Here are the people signed on and involved in the project. We will be funding most of the budget from our own pockets, but the extra money we raise here will help to build the world with visual effects in a way that creates a totally convincing, immersive cinema experience on a shoestring budget. 3,500 will get us started with that goal, more will certainly help. We plan to tour the country through film festivals when the film is finished.
