I am sorry my video is rather mundane. I am not a videographer and it is the best I could do at this time.

The short explanation of this project is to write a trail guidebook of the Olympic Peninsula for the 21st century. Most guide books written about it today seem to be recycled information from past books, and it is my goal to write a book from a new perspective based on the way we hike today, not decades before.

This book will be unlike any trail guide you have ever read and will take you beyond basic trail information. Prepare to be surprised.

It is not my intention to replace completely the guide books that have been written in the past. Without them, the doorway to the Olympics would not have been open to me and countless others who have discovered the incredible diversity and beauty of it's peaks and valleys.

The historical value and wealth of information of the past guide books should be a part of every hiker's library about the Olympic wilderness. However, It is been my plan and hope to write this guide book with the least amount of influence from these previous books. My reason is because that I wanted this book to reflect a new age of hiker. The backpacker today is different in habits, perceptions, and skill levels compared to those of us that have hike decades before.

GPS is used with more frequency than compass, backcountry gear is getting lighter, and the speed of life has force many to experience the outdoors at a faster pace.

This digital book is going to be formatted with the interactivity of iBook, including video and slideshows of trails. Also in a Kindle, Zook, and other digital formats. I am still undecided about a paper version. That will be decided by reader feedback.

The book will include seasonal trail specific information as to what gear you may need to carry, permits needed, and skill needed to complete it. I will also mention wildlife and flora you may encounter. There will also be basic wilderness techniques explained. We are in an information age and I hope to pack this book with lots of it.

I have hiked nearly every corner of Alaska and now that I live in Washington, the Olympic Mountains have become the source of my exploration. Writing this book is in response to many of my friends saying I should. Teaching outdoor skills and talking wilderness is a favorite pastime of mine, something I have been fortunate to do for many years. 

I look forward to having the opportunity to share my passion, and to help others possibly make the wilderness a way of life instead of just a recreation.
