The Ninja Block is controlled with “if this then that” style tasks and connects your things to the web (Dropbox, Twitter, & more).
The internet of things for the rest of us.

Want to bridge the things in your life with the web? Maybe you want to get an alert when your friends are playing on Xbox Live, or send an SMS to your phone when someone is at your front door. Even if you're an electronics expert, or a programming prodigy, these are complex, finicky projects. Ninja Blocks puts aside the complexity of electronics, networking, and coding and allows you to focus on creating.

Ninja Cloud
This is the Internet of Things the way it should be: Ninja Cloud is seamlessly integrated into your Ninja Blocks, allowing them to easily listen and talk to web services such as Twitter, Facebook, Dropbox, Weather and more.
How it all works
Ninja Blocks are simple but powerful open source hardware backed by an amazing web service called Ninja Cloud that allows your Ninja Block to talk to your favorite web apps.
Each Ninja Block comes with an RGB LED and built-in temperature sensor and accelerometer. Four expansion ports and a regular USB port allow you to add further inputs and outputs.
Ninja Cloud allows you to control your Ninja Blocks without writing a single line of code.
Tasks
Ninja Cloud allows you to program your NInja Block by creating Tasks. Tasks are made up of Triggers and Actions.
You can tell your Ninja to perform tasks like:
- Talk to Siri and turn on the light
- Take a picture of your front yard and save it to Dropbox when movement is detected
- Switch your lava lamp on whenever your friends are playing on Xbox Live
- Get a notification on your phone when a package is left at your door
- If your baby is crying turn on a lamp in the hallway
Example Triggers:
- "Movement has been detected"
- "The temperature has risen above"
- "You've been tagged in a photo on Facebook"
- "You've sent a new tweet"
- "A button has been pushed"
- "Sound is detected"
- "Your friend has checked in"
Example Actions:
- "Display text on an LCD display"
- "Play a sound"
- "Send a tweet"
- "Open a relay"
- "Turn on a light"
- "Send an SMS to my phone"
- "Post a message on Facebook"
Triggers and Actions come from Channels. Channels are your favorite web apps, as well as the sensors and actuators connected to your Ninja Block.
Built-in Ninja Block Triggers
With a built-in accelerometer (senses movement) and thermometer (senses temperature). With additional external sensors, Ninja Blocks can sense current, humidity, motion, distance, sound, light and even capture video. We will be developing many more sensors over the next few months.
Built-in Ninja Block Actions
Each Ninja Block comes with a built-in RGB LED for notifications. Four additional expansion ports allow your Ninja Block to affect its surroundings by controlling lights, infra-red, relays, motors, and other actuators.
Integrate with your Favorite Web Apps
Ninja Blocks will launch with support for:
- Dropbox
- Google Docs
- SMS and Phone
- Xbox Live
Soon after we hope to integrate with Siri, RSS, Weather and more!
Connectivity
With a built-in ethernet port, getting your Ninja Block online is a snap. If you want to go wireless, our built-in USB port will support Wifi and other wireless modules.
Open Hardware

A Naked Ninja (with Open Hardware Stamp)
Ninja Blocks are Open Hardware. The hardware reference designs (CAD files) are available under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike Unported license and supports the Open Hardware Definition 1.0, you are free to download and adapt them to your needs.
Simple To Set Up
Ninja Blocks are easy to use, and setting one up is no exception. Just plug your Ninja Block into your network via ethernet and in your Web Browser go to ninjablocks.com. Your Ninja Block is now ready to command!

The Sensors
Initially, we have developed 5 sensors and we have many more in design. The 5 additional sensors we have developed for our Kickstarter project are:
- Light - Use this to sense when a light is turned on/off
- Humidity - Check the moisture of a room
- Distance - Measure when something come close (like a door opening)
- Motion - Check for movement
- Push Button - Perfect for using as a trigger to turn things on and off
More on our sensors can be seen on the Ninja Blocks Blog.
