About this project
The Film Plot
The film follows a spaceship full of young people, that were put there by a group of scientists and sent to start a colony on a new planet, or so they were told. The ship runs perfectly, and everyone on board goes about their daily lives with a perfect sense of duty and order. Jason has become curious about why the ship hasn't fallen into utter chaos, since everyone on board is a young person.
After the ship covers up a death, Jason is secretly sent to find out why by Diana, a member of the head council. He stumbles upon some dark secrets, that reveal why everyone and everything runs so smoothly, and what really happened back on Earth.
What We're Doing Now
We've already begun pre-production, including the production design, casting, costumes and the look and style. We're shooting the entire film on the campus of San Diego State, mostly in the film studio, and a little in the power plant.
What We Need Funding For
We're building the entire set in the studio, made to look like a space ship. There will be two hallways, a bedroom and a computer interface room. Almost the entire budget is going towards building the set. Some materials will be provided by the film department, but this is a bigger than normal project. The production design money we need will go toward materials not provided by the department, set dressings and other details we'll build into the set.
The hallways will be dressed to look like living areas, semi-indistrial areas, and lower deck industrials halls. The bedrooms will all be the same design, but dressed differently for different characters. The computer monitor room is inspired by the sets of 2001: A Space Odyssey, with a lot of color and simple computer interfacing. There is also a room where pipes are monitored, the steam pipe room, where some of the bad kids onboard like to hang out. This room will be dressed with dozens of pipes and valves, some with steam pouring out.
We also need money for costumes and props. Our costume designer has already begun designing the costumes, which will all match. Everyone on board the ship wears the same basic costume, with some alterations. We also need to purchase some props, from pipes to books.
We're shooting on a DSLR, but will need to rent some lenses, to fully capture the filmic look of the camera. The lenses will provide the hallways with more depth and give the film an overall richer look and texture.
