About this project

WHO ARE WE?

We are Nick Hwang, J Corey Knoll, and Andy Larson [http://thecoolvan.wordpress.com]. As composers and performers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we represent the forefront of interaction between the realms of technology and music. When we first began the creation of the digital instrument GUA and its interaction with analog instruments, the collaborative possibilities caught us a bit by surprise.

We have successfully presented GUA and several other of our inventions, creations, and compositions at a myriad of prestigious U.S. locations. We have the opportunity to present our work at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC) in Linz, Austria.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

  • Nick and Corey will compose a new work for two tubas and GUA, our created digital instrument.
  • A world premiere of the piece at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference with a presentation of GUA: what it is, and how it works. In the performance, Nick and Corey will be manning the GUA stations while Andy and International Yamaha Tuba Performing Artist Sergio Carolino play the tuba parts.
  • Several performances between Portugal and Austria.

HOW WILL YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS HELP US?

Your contributions will help us make this performance opportunity a reality. We will apply the funds towards hardware, software, travel-friendly speaker setups, and other technological costs first. We will be constructing our own speaker arrays that truly embody sounds of acoustic instruments. Any remaining money will be used to defray travel costs such as flights, trains, and hostel accommodations.

Kickstarter is an ALL-or-NOTHING support system. If we do not make our goal of $12,000, then we do not get ANY of it. So, every little bit helps! Your contribution will definitely help us realize this awesome opportunity!

===================================================

Collectively, we have constructed speaker arrays, created instruments out of everyday things, as well as created other digital instruments with controllers like wii-motes and joysticks.

Connected as Nick Hwang (1043 friends)

We are a collaborative group of musicians out of Baton Rouge, LA.

We have been performing together since around 2009, mixing live electronics with acoustic instruments and sounds.

We program digital instruments/controllers and compose musicals works for those instruments. The use of both acoustic and electronics instruments is not seen as neither experimental nor chance explorations, but of obvious and interesting sound/musical possibilities.
