Greetings All!
Thank you for taking the time to come to my Kickstarter project page, watch the video, and now read even more about my project! I’m very excited to be putting together my first recording project under my own name, I am eager to share my new music with you all!
In 2010, I relocated to New York City from my hometown Rochester, NY to pursue studies at the Juilliard School and get my Masters in Jazz Studies. Now as May approaches, I am preparing for my exit from school and recording a new project of original music for my sextet! I am looking forward to getting this project underway, I have put out several recording projects with other groups I’ve led, but this will be the first to be released under my own name.
This recording project will feature compositions that reflect my growth and musical journey through the last several years since I became serious about pursuing my own original music and ensembles. Like all artists, my musical identity is a journey in constant progress, evolving organically through my life and musical experiences. As a supporter you are an invaluable part of this process, and to promoting and facilitating the creation of new artistic works!
My compositions are a vehicle for not only my musical preferences and opinions but are also a reflection of the training and journey for musical knowledge that I have experienced. That is: some tunes were conceived as a project to work on a particular musical problem or situation; some pieces were written for specific people or occasions; and some came about purely organically. My compositional style is unique in that I don't limit my music to things that are common or easy on my instrument. I value technical mastery and displaying ensemble aptitude through intricate passages. But, ultimately I hope that these things are only components that help to achieve a unique vibe and feeling for each piece. I am an appreciator of all kinds of music, and I believe that this displays itself in my compositions through a varied stylistic vocabulary.
