NGN is a new online television network for ultimate frisbee that's putting traditional broadcasting to the test.
UPDATE:
We've been in touch with the Easterns Tournament Director and we've decided that if we hit $25,000 we'll add Easterns to the schedule. Easterns plays host to the best college teams from the East Coast on March 23-25.
Please note our all-or-nothing target of $20,000 hasn't changed. We're just saying, "We promised to bring more tournaments beyond Stanford and Centex and if we hit $25,000 we're willing to do it more recklessly and less cautiously."
The Story
NGN is an evolution of the live streaming NexGen provided for the USAU Club Championships last year. We saw the potential for an online television network that regularly broadcasted ultimate using multi-camera setups, elevated perspective, instant replays and expert commentary.
New technology and the rise of the Internet mean professional production values are no longer the sole domain of major sports networks. We're excited to discover what this means for sports and television and in doing so bring the world's best ultimate into the homes of tens of thousands of people around the world.
We’re asking the ultimate community to help us put these first two tournaments on the air with our promise that we’ll be able to deliver more games and events in the future (think Easterns, ECC, Labor Day, WFDF World Championships, NexGen Tour, etc.) The long-term sustainable success for NGN requires a strong fan base that demands live ultimate—the kind of fan base that can help us raise $20,000.
Opening Schedule
(3 games/day; 3 pool plays games on Saturday; 1 quarters, 1 semis and finals on Sunday)
Stanford Invite - March 3 & 4
College Centex - March 17 & 18

FAQ
-
Nope. NGN will always provide a FREE standard-quality (SQ) broadcast directly on our site. If you want to watch a game after it's aired or in high-quality (HQ) you'll need a premium subscription.
-
Nope. Our FREE standard-quality broadcast will only be accessible through www.ngnultimate.com with no sign-up required. Premium subscriptions require sign-up.
-
The premium subscription gives you access to our high-quality broadcast as well as a 30-day window video on demand. Subscriptions for most tournaments will be $9.99.
-
Games will be become available for VOD two days after they are aired in the case of a single game or two days after the conclusion of an entire event in the case of a tournament and will be available for a 30 days thereafter. Subscriptions purchased after the games release will not be granted additional viewing time.
-
NGN will start with broadcasts of the Stanford Invite (March 3 & 4) and College Centex (March 17 & 18). From there we'll expand to cover as many major tournaments as possible. We're sorry we can't be more specific than this. Do expect broadcasts of the 2012 NexGen Tour.
-
We don't have specific plans for any of our coverage beyond the Stanford Invite and Centex, but we do anticipate that NGN will air women's games from time to time. We see potential in producing events specifically for the female demographic, but it will require the right timing and opportunity.
-
Our early emphasis will be on the open division. Note the $1,250 reward level for the Stanford Invite is open to both divisons. (Open and women's divisons are held on separate weekends for Centex.)
-
We've added essential elements such as multiple camera angles, instant replays, elevated perspective and expert commentary that make NGN broadcasts an experience similar to to watching sports on a major network like ESPN or ABC.
-
We'll make-to-order DVDs for individual games. Prices to be determined.
-
No. We'll be gathering data from these first two events to help sell advertising and we'll be funding future broadcasts with a mixture of ad revenue and premium subscriptions.
