About this project

Hi, everyone. So, as you see in my profile, I'm publishing a book this year called STRETCH: The Unlikely Making Of A Yoga Dude. It's coming out from Harper Perennial, and they're taking care of all book-related matters. HOWEVER, if I'm going to take a yoga book on the road, and am going to be talking about yoga on the internet and the radio and the internet radio and maybe even the television, I'd best know quite a bit about my subject matter. Well, I do know a bit, but I want to know a lot more.

In early February, I found out that I'd been accepted to a prestigious yoga teacher-training program. I'll be studying with Richard Freeman, who (though he's too modest to say such a thing himself) is one of the most respected yoga teachers in the world. Here's a link to his studio, The Yoga Workshop: http://www.yogaworkshop.com/. I've had the privilege of studying with him in the past for brief intervals, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to train for an intensive 200-hour period. It will be an intense course in the physical aspects of Ashtanga yoga, but will also cover yoga history and philosophy, as well as anatomy, meditation, and pranayama, or breath work. I'm going to get a well-rounded basic yoga education that will kick my ass, and I can't wait to get started!

Here's the catch: I live in Los Angeles, with my family. The training takes place in Boulder, for the entire month of June. I need to raise money so I can pay for the workshop, and also for my living expenses so I can temporarily relocate to Colorado and continue to support my family at home.

In my heart, I know that this training is what I need to do both for my yoga and for my art. I love the practice of yoga and I love writing about yoga in a funny way, and I want to take both to a higher level. If you want to read more of my yoga writing, here's a blog I write for The Faster Times: http://thefastertimes.com/about/.... And if you want to know more about me, here's my home page: www.nealpollack.com.

See you on the mat. Namaste, motherfuckers!

Neal Pollack

Straightpin Los Angeles, CA

I'm the author of five books, including the bestselling memoir Alternadad and the cult satirical classic The Neal Pollack Anthology Of American Literature. My next book, STRETCH: The Unlikely Making Of A Yoga Dude, a comedy about my adventures in American yoga culture, will be published by Harper Perennial in August 2010. I've written for a lot of magazines and websites and have recorded two indie-rock albums. I live in Los Angeles, California, with my wife, son, and two flatulent Boston Terriers.
