About this project
A new beginning has come upon Haiti, a country located 700 miles south of Florida. The Earthquake of 2010 has forced Haitians into a desperate situation for basic survival, seeking food, water, shelter and medical care.
I set out for Haiti with a camera soon after the earthquake and found Haitians to be the strongest, most resilient and caring people of the many counties and nationalities I have come to know.
How has a country so near to the wealth of the United States be so oppressed and neglected? As is often the case, a severely corrupt government that has abandoned their own people has made the Haitians rely on nobody but their neighbors and family.
A natural disaster will bring a natural revolution to a country that has needed the attention and support of the international community and now, with the earthquake bringing Haiti to it's knees, this is the time to document the potential rebirth of a country.
As a photographer for the past 15 years, I have come to firmly believe that a camera can be mightier than a sword. Recording the hurt, hope, sorrow and joy, independent of the mass media but with patience and intimacy, will expose in grace and compassion this critical time in a wrecked nation.
The world has come together for a common good cause. I seek to find and photograph the affects, the impact and efficiency of a global family on a devastated island.
The Haitian people I have spoke with are seeking our help. They have completely given up on their government and have come to realize that a democratic nation such as those currently on the ground in Haiti, are the breath of a new life.
Funding for the project will be applied to the publishing of the book of photographs as well as minimal transportation costs. Having been to Haiti soon after the earthquake, I have made many friends and contacts in Haiti that are eager to help me with my cause thus keeping my costs minimal.

Connected as Nate Howard (240 friends)
Nate Howard has traveled the world as a photojournalist. The photographs he sent to us were from, Russia, Mexico, Iraq, and Kosovo. Photography taken all around the world does not always have a lot of similarities, but what we were most impressed by was Mr. Howard’s ability to capture quiet human moments that made us feel like we knew the people photographed.
