About this project
Hardcopy is the tongue-in-cheek title for my next CD. My last seven CDs were either digital or burn-on-demand via iTunes.com/NatalieNicoleGilbert, Amazon.com, Cafepress.com/NNGMusic and numerous other digital distribution music sites such as Spotify and Napster.
While
it's been fantastic in this digital age not to have to manage inventory
or find
a place to store 7,000+ CDs at any given time, there have also been
numerous roadblocks. When 20 radio stations asked me for a CD hardcopy of my music, I had to burn
them on demand at $10 a pop or send an overly simplistic home-burned
CDR. To be honest, since these weren't professional enough I sat on my hands. I didn’t
want to
give them low quality CDRs, and after an $86,000 hip surgery following being
hit by a
SUV while I was jogging, I was lucky to make car and rent
payments. I imagined it was better to wait for the right time when I
could deliver the
best product, even if it meant losing a few opportunities in favor of representing myself professionally to top music outlets. Still, not having physical CDs on hand meant I couldn’t just casually
hand copies to friends and family, nor could I sell CDs at concerts to
create a lasting impression or experience.
I would love to have you join me in jumping this hurdle. Even a contribution of $1 from all my fans would put me well over my goal. If that should happen, by the way, it would enable me to license a cover song or two (such as Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ or Clay Crosse’s ‘My Place Is With You’), pay $50 per song for Universal to master and polish top tracks (or all of them, if an additional $500 plus is raised), and possibly even cover the costs for an updated photoshoot. If you prefer to contribute as a trade or barter and would like to offer your mastering services, or a location or photography skills for a photoshoot, feel free to drop me a line. If you don’t have services, gear or funds to offer but you do have an extra set of guitar strings, postage, even web or newspaper space you’d like to toss our way, we certainly welcome other resources, as well. Of course, sharing the link to this project on your social media profiles is a huge help, too!
