OUR MISSION

The mission of Boston Urban Ballet is to provide exceptional dance instruction and performance opportunities to a diverse group of young dancers and educate the community about the importance of the arts. 

ABOUT THE DANCERS

Boston Urban Ballet Youth Company dancers are featured in the Urban Nutcracker and many other community collaborative projects. Youth Company dancers learn the importance of responsibility and professionalism as they are required to expand and bolster their ballet training, attend all rehearsals dressed appropriately, maintain the highest level of academic accomplishment, and serve as role models to the other young dancers in their community. 

Some dancers from the Youth Company are serving on the Tony Williams Dance Center Youth Advisory Board, where they discuss innovations for the company, organize group trips, participate in fundraisers, and offer free academic tutorials to other students.

URBAN MOVEMENT SEASON

'Urban Movement' season is Boston Urban Ballet's first full production season, envisioned as eclectic mixed-bill performances and master classes, celebrating the cultural variety of our dance community.  

Boston Urban Ballet Company members will perform choreography by some of the world's leading cultural dance instructors including:

Hulas by Marta Moussa of Polynesian Dance Arts
Bollywood Dances by Aparna Sidhoor of Navarasa Dance Theatre
Afro-Jazz by Marianne Harkless of Move for Youth, Cambridge

'Urban Movement' season will also feature collaborative performances with other community dance and arts groups, including:

*'Celebration of Black Arts' at the Strand Theatre on Feb. 23, 2013

*'Sean Fielder and Friends Workshop Series' at Tony Williams Dance Center every Sunday from March 17-April 14

*'Wake Up the Earth Festival' in Jamaica Plain on May 3

*A full-length summer concert featuring performances of Tony Williams Dance Center Ballet Program in the ballet 'Sylvia', Boston Urban Ballet, Flamenco Dance Project, Boston Tap Company, and others

*'Ben's Trumpet' at a place and date TBD

*'JP Open Studios' Closing Gala at Tony Williams Dance Center

*'Urban Nutcracker'

*Thursday Night Teen Poetry and Improv Nights at Tony Williams Dance Center

*Weekly Cultural Documentary Showings at Urbano Project

Sponsorships will contribute to marketing materials, costumes, headpieces, administrative costs, production expenses and theatre rentals.
