Spencer Tunick is returning to Israel

Update #36 · Aug 7, 2012 · comment

To all the Spencer Tunick installation's' participants - the yearly event (2012)

Spencer Tunick is returning to Israel. Please join him on September 14th at the Dead Sea. https://www.facebook.com/events/476815572334048/

It has been nearly 1 year since you helped Spencer Tunick achieve his historic art installation at the Dead Sea. Your participation resulted in many key accomplishments:

  • Spencer Tunick created some of his best work of art in Israel
  • The world media took notice and over 500 million people saw a new positive image of Israel and learnt about the environmental issues of the Dead Sea
  • Spencer gave amazing quotes to the press reinforcing his love for Israel, the Israeli people, and the environment
  • We succeeded in elevating the Dead Sea to the Final 10 list in the New 7 Wonders of the World Competition
  • The religious parties in Kneset led by Shas and Bayit Heyehudi failed in their attempt to suppress Freedom of Speech in Israel and to block our art installation

Unfortunately the battle is not yet over and the Dead Sea is still in danger. After many years of hard work on this project and repeated interactions with the Regional Councils of the Dead Sea (Tamar & Megilot) & the Dead Sea Works, we are convinced that if matters are left in their hands the Dead Sea will be ruined.

It is for these reasons that Spencer Tunick has decided to return to Israel and to the Dead Sea. He is partnering with the grassroots organization "Save Our Sea" www.saveoursea.org.il who is focused on the unique medical/healing properties of the Dead Sea that people from all over the world depend on.  Each year they hold an annual Dead Sea Float to raise international awareness.  This year they have decided to hold their event around the same time of the 1 year anniversary of our installation. Spencer is coming to Israel for this event and we would like you to join him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Details on the Dead Sea Float on September 14th can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/476815572334048/

https://www.facebook.com/events/476815572334048

Press release

A year after the famous installation:

Spencer Tunick returning to Israel to support campaign to rescue Dead Sea

The renowned photographer will participate in mass floating session to rescue the Dead Sea and support patients around the world who need it desperately

The event will take place on September 14, 9 a.m. at the Ein Bokek Public Beach - The public is welcome

Activist and visitors will go in the water for mass floating event

Spencer Tunick is returning to the Dead Sea for a mass floating event to raise awareness of the disappearance of the Dead Sea. Tunick will participate in the event and possibly photograph it.

The event by the “Save our Sea” group, taking place for the third year, will be held on Friday, September 14, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Ein Bokek Public Beach. At that time environmental activists and concerned citizens from all over the world will go into the Dead Sea and float in it together – a unique experience that can only happen in this unique body of water.

The group nude photographs taken last year and the stir they created helped raise awareness of the deteriorating state of the singular natural treasure. In response to the outpour of reactions, Tunick decided to join this year's special protest event to raise awareness of the Dead Sea's disappearance.

It will be the third Dead Sea Float, whose purpose is to send the message that the Dead Sea is not only a natural treasure but also a source of cure for patients throughout the world who need it desperately. Nobody has the right to destroy it.

Save our Sea is a group of activists suffering from various diseases such as psoriasis, who rely on the unique climate of the Dead Sea area and its characteristic curative attributes to treat their skin diseases. The patients are concerned about the grave state of the Dead Sea and fear for their health if it continues to deteriorate.

Says John Sekulow, co-founder of Save Our Sea: “The Dead Sea is necessary for the health and quality of life of psoriasis patients in Israel and around the world. We fear the day when millions of patients cannot get the treatment they need because of its disappearance."
