Dear Community,

After presenting six consecutive seasons of original dance in New York City we have taken 2011 off to focus on completing Calling Names, a new dance with an original score by Dunia Best-Sinnreich and Tilishia Bradley.

We are using, Kickstarter, a new way to fund creative projects that allows us to harness the power of social networking and to pool donations large and small from individual backers like you.

In this campaign we are seeking at least $3500 which will help us take a major step towards returning to the stage in 2012, stronger than ever. Kickstarter funding is all or nothing- we can only succeed if we raise a minimum of $3500. We are counting on you to help us get the ball rolling by making a generous contribution, TODAY.

When we meet this goal we can:

• Stretch creatively. Dunia Best-Sinnreich created the score for Ascendance. Tilishia Bradley and I made Sista Goddess. More than simply an opportunity to work again with such brilliantly gifted collaborators, Calling Names will be a live performance work for dancers and musicians together--a significant step into new creative territory.

• Rehearse movement and music together in appropriate rehearsal space. Creating and performing work with live music presents new and more expensive rehearsal challenges and takes more time.

• Integrate the sound and light designers into the project sooner. Your contribution to the seed money fund will help us retain our production design team earlier in the creative process

• Demonstrate solid community support to leverage funds and opportunities. Both public and private funders are moved by concrete evidence that the work we do is valued by our community. Even a small donation helps to build the case for supporting MUV as we look towards our 2012 season.
