About this project

My project is a curriculum-based rock album for teachers and kids. I began writing and using my original songs to teach with in March 2011.  The album I'm making is designed for teachers and students, however it will stand on its own as a great rock record, even if you're over 10 and not a teacher.

Each song’s lyrics and accompanying lessons are based on Common Core Standards and Language Arts curriculum.

Due to the enthusiastic response from my students and colleagues, to make this album is essential.

I’ve tapped punk rock bassist/classically trained flutist Emma Hospelhorn and Ben Sutherland, a Ph.D. in music composition, to round out my band. Chicago-based engineer/producer Mark Greenberg (Wilco, Andrew Bird) will man the boards and co-produce the album with us.

This album will consist of 10 songs that are best suited for 1st graders. My band and I will start recording in Oct. 2011, complete the album in 3 months, and it will be ready for teachers to use in the New Year.

Our budget is as follows:

Studio time with Mark: $2000

Musician payments: $200 (I've already paid them out of pocket, this is a bonus)

Album Artwork by Louis DeMarco from Project Onward: $500

T-Shirt Manufacturing: $500

Buttons: $100

Thank you cards and stamps: $100

Download card/MP3 services: $200

CD Duplication (300 CDs): $1000

Mastering by Carl Saff: $300

Food for Ben, Emma, Mark and I during our recording sessions: $100

Kickstarter and Amazon fees (10% of pledged funds): $555.55

Total Pledge Goal: $5555.55!
