Funding Successful
This project successfully raised its funding goal on August 21, 2010.
Pledge $1 or more
Anyone (including any current backer) who has pledged at least $1.00 to this project will get to read all the stuff I write for the backer rewards. This means you'll get to read the blank form letter said for the $5.00+ backers, the individual pieces of flash fiction I write for the $10.00+ backers, and the Terrible Character Backgrounds I write for the $80.00+ characters.
Pledge $5 or more
I will mail you A Terrible Personalized Form Letter, thanking you for your participation in the project. Guaranteed to get at least one cheap laugh.
Pledge $10 or more
Not only will you get A Terrible Personalized Form Letter, you will also get a cheaply-printed copy of one of the character profiles, with some Terrible Flash Fiction scrawled on the back. Each one will be completely unique, and tailored to the profile.
Pledge $20 or more
You'll get A Terrible Form Letter, the cheaply printed Character Portrait with the Terrible Flash Fiction, plus one of the original Character Portraits, signed by the artist himself. A genuine one-of-a-kind piece.
Pledge $40 or more
You'll get A Terrible Form Letter, the cheaply printed Character Portrait with the Terrible Flash Fiction, and one of the original signed Character Portraits. Additionally, you'll have the option to send the artist a picture of yourself and ask that you be both stylized and immortalized in this project. Ever wanted to see how you'd look if you were more mean? Now's your chance. And we'll make sure that the Signed Original (your $20.00 reward) is your own portrait.
Pledge $80 or more
You'll get A Terrible Form Letter, the cheaply printed Character Portrait with the Terrible Flash Fiction, and one of the original signed Character Portraits based off your picture. Then I'll write a Terrible Character Background for the portrait. Something that tells all about how you used to wrestle bears in a circus before joining up with a group of demon hunters bent on protecting a small town in Eastern Minnesota. Maybe not that exactly, but something like it.
Pledge $115 or more
The Mystery Of The Prize. We are $115 away from hitting $1050, which would add 12 more Terrible Character Portraits to this project, bringing the grand total to 84 Portraits! With less than two days to do, I'm adding in this special Mystery Backer Reward. Please read this carefully. If you back at this level, INSTEAD OF ANY OF THE PREVIOUSLY LISTED REWARDS, you will get a SPECIAL MYSTERY REWARD. This will be a reward package I create personally. It will be entirely unique. It may include some of the previous rewards, but there will be one thing in this reward package that no one else will get. Something I make just for you. Something Terrible. Something Awesome. There is only one of these.
Pledge $160 or more
You'll get A Terrible Form Letter, the cheaply printed Character Portrait with the Terrible Flash Fiction, and one of the original signed Character Portraits based off your picture, and a Terrible Character Background that may or may not involve bear wrestling. You'll also get a single uncut sheet of 9 original Character Portraits, signed by the artist. There's only one of these, so you'd better get it while you can.

I make things. I design games. I do other stuff too.
I do indeed! I'll be posting a more detailed update Wednesday, but packages starting to roll out this week.
Do we have any updates on when the signed portraits might come out ?
Sorry the lack of updates here. I am slowly working my way through the backer packages, but have been hindered by some personal issues. I will post a better update when I have one.
Any updates on when the backers at higher levels might get the added-value parts they supported? i.e. I'm hoping to get my original signed portrait but haven't heard anything...
Any updates on this project ?
so... any updates?
Any update on when these will be available?
Ok, Holidays over, wife recovering nicely from surgery (and going back to work next week) so I'm back on this full time till it's done. I was supposed to be done today but surgery/ recovery set me back a few weeks. So, I should be done with the illustrations in 3 weeks from Monday (Jan 3).
Sorry for the hold up guys. Having organs removed is apparently a big deal and I underestimated how much it would take me away from work.

Genesis of Legend Publishing is proud to help this out, and the portraits will be incredibly handy for use in some of our games. Awesome stuff. Releasing stuff into the commons is a wonderful deed and I applaud this.
We (Wicked North Games LLC) are working on several RPG products and this will be extremely helpful. We're looking to end up publishing in the next month or two if our timelines end up panning out nicely. I'm excited to include some of the portraits in our work for a while to come. We ended up backing because of all this and well, I'm originally from the bay area, (native to Marin County), and its great to see gamers from that region of the country.
Oh hey, while it's on my mind, the images on the splash page for this are examples only. An approximation of the style planned for this project. Some are mine to use for self-promotion only, so I won't be re-using them.
Just wanted to suss that out in advance.
This is 60 fresh illustrations (some of which are based on our patrons).
This will be a blast!
Cheers!

$40+ contributors, if you have an image of yourself, photo, whatever, shoot it to me at jeff at team-preston.com along with a basic idea of what you're looking for: Elf? Dwarf? Zombie?
I'll maintain a link to the DriveThruRPG free download from my website etc so folks can get to it easily!
Thanks again everyone!
Cheers!
JP
We have put some thought into the distribution. We haven't settled on what goes into the final package, but the goal is to make the images as usable as possible, and so I'd expect that we will offer the biggest, highest resolution scans that we can without venturing into prohibitive file sizes, probably in multiple formats.
My current plans are to offer free downloads via DriveThruRPG as well as my own site, and uploading the base files to Wikimedia Commons. I can't speak to what Jeff may have in mind himself.
This is just the kind of project there needs to be more of. Has there been any thought about the distribution of the finished work?
Thanks so much you guys! We're really coming along!
This is a great idea. Nevermet Press is backing this - not only to possibly make use fo the portraits in an upcoming eBook - but also becuase : Artists Need Our Support. and this is a great way to deliver that. Bravo - genious idea. Creative Commons FTW!
Loved the Horse guy from Spire of Iron & Crystal!
