The first PlateTopper prototype was built way back in 2005 in a mechanical engineering course at Princeton University. After graduating from college, I continued to work part-time on the PlateTopper project while pursuing my graduate education in biomedical engineering and medicine. In 2009, the PlateTopper won “Best New Invention” at the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago, IL – and since then I’ve been even more determined to bring the PlateTopper to market. I’ve been working full-time on the PlateTopper this year, and I would greatly appreciate your support to bring this innovative product to market! Feel free to contact me at www.facebook.com/PlateTopper, www.twitter.com/PlateTopper or info@platetopper.com – thank you!
@Charlie: Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, much appreciated!
I've been using the PT for a bit over a month now, and the units work great. It does a really good job sealing the food in (and it's extremely easy to use). It even works with paper plates, which is great for parties!
For future productions, I would love to see it come in various sizes and shapes (not sure if it's viable, but many of my plates are smaller round ones or square shaped). Also, the top of PT isn't completely flat, so I don't feel comfortable stacking plates on top of one another as suggested in the project video (the plates were a bit wobbly). But overall, great product!
@Eralee: I'll double-check your order and contact you via email.
@Irawan: The PlateTopper mini and CakeTopper will be on the way sometime this year I hope!
I live in Virginia and still have not gotten my PlateToppers. What gives? I was a kickstarter backer.
Extremely like the PlateToppers. Just wishing you will have same projects but for smaller plates.
@Chow CK: I'm sorry to say that shipping via Amazon.com is only available in the US. I'm glad that I was available to fulfill your initial order -- thank you for the inquiry!
I like it and need to order more. Do you ship to Malaysia again?
Received. Thank you
@Sperry23: Yes, the PlateTopper is safe to use in the freezer. Please use CAUTION when re-heating in the microwave, though. I suggest using it for 2 min or less in the microwave to avoid the build-up of hot steam.
@soxcited: Sounds great. A limited quantity of PlateToppers are available on Amazon.com: http://amzn.com/B006GFRA7Y
Michael received my PlateTopper. I have not try with the food but it works as described on the plates. Thanks for getting these delivered. I will definitely order more.
Outstanding. I received my PlateToppers and have been sending them out as presents. I'm very excited about the product.
The colors are more vivid in real life than onscreen. Nice.
One question: Can they survive the freezer?
@Alexander Blum: Thanks! I worked with an excellent logistics company -- Expeditors International -- who helped me deliver ahead of schedule.
Just received my PlateToppers. They work great on all my plates, though I have to try them with actual food.
This is officially my first Kickstarter project to deliver before the deadline!
Thanks from Germany!
@Carla Harlan and @Criag Dunn: Thank you for supportive feedback! I'm pleased to hear your PlateToppers are working as expected.
I'll certainly let you know when the PlateTopper mini and CakeTopper are available, probably in the second half of 2012.
Got my box 2 days ago... I LOVE these...they work exactly as described... I can't wait for the mini ones and the cake topper. Will backers be notified when different sizes are available??
Fantastic product...wish you best wishes and all good luck going forward..
Carla
Got a giant box on my doorstep today full of 40 plate-toppers. They are freakin' great! They work exactly as expected, look great, and are well-made. I tried some on every different large plate I could find and, despite some significant design differences in the plates, they all sealed perfectly. I tried to grab the lids and get the plates to fall off and couldn't get the seal to break - yet, an easy pull on the tab and the lid comes right off.
These will make great gifts for some lucky family members and friends, but I know I will be enjoying quite a few of them myself. Hope you are ready for all those who are going to want to get their own (or more) after seeing these in action over the coming weeks and months.
Thanks Michael!
Hi again @Mike Metelmann: The PlateToppers are boxed in 2-packs. Therefore if you received 5 small boxes and each box contains 2 PlateToppers, your order of 10 PlateToppers total should be complete. I hope that clears things up!
Hi @Mike Metelmann: I apologize for the inconvenience. I'll check with the warehouse / shipping company to confirm what order they sent you. I'll also send you an email to discuss specifics.
I only got half of my plate toppers. :-( Were they all supposed to ship at the same time?
I got my plate toppers today! They look and work great. I think this will be one of my wife's best Christmas presents. Thanks Michael and good work!
Hi Craig! Thanks for checking-in. Manufacturing and shipping are moving forward as planned... and delivery in on schedule for January 2012. Next week I'll have photos of the PlateTopper being un-boxed and I'll try to dig up some manufacturing pics too.
Hi Michael,
It's been about 4 weeks since you've posted, so I'm wondering if there were any updates, photos, etc. related to the production process(es) you could share with us. Would love to see some behind-the-scenes manufacturing-related pics if you have any.
Thanks!
Hi Scott, I was handling int'l shipping on a case-by-case basis. I sent you message to discuss further.
Hi,
I've not seen details of international shipping (UK in my case) could you let me know here I can find it and how to send the shipping cost to you.
Thanks
Whoohoo we're funded! Thanks @Carla and everyone who has supported this project recently on Kickstarter and for the past 6 years!
Congratulations...it's thrilling to see this project not only fulley funded...but OVER funded!
Can't wait to get and use Plate Topper!! Looking forward to the smaller ones too...
Thanks Craig! I was a bit concerned as well... it's been an eye-opening experience trying to get the attention of bloggers. I'm very glad we made it -- thanks again for being an early backer!
Finally surpassed the goal! I was getting worried for a bit that the word wasn't getting spread widely enough about this project, but seems like we got there with room to spare. I had doubled my pledge awhile back to help things along, just in case.
Congrats, Michael. From "Dark's" comments below, I really look forward to trying these and sharing them with friends. Seeing something in action in-person will really speak volumes and drive a lot of business your way.
-Craig
@Yiling and Janine: Thanks for the positive feedback!
@Dark: That's so awesome you bought a PlateTopper from Dr. Tseng -- he's my uncle and #1 distributor thus far, :-). I'm very glad to hear that you're enjoying the product in the real world!
Small world. Your Dad is my dentist. I bought a plate topper during my last office visit! In fact, I just put my dinner underneath it tonight, not even kidding. This thing actually works way better than any similar product I've tried...and I'm the weird kind of person that tries every type of novel plate covering :) The plate topper is awesome.
This looks great!
Best of luck! This looks like such an incredibly useful product - one I look forward to using and telling my friends about!
@JR Sanchez
Thanks for your pledge! A smaller and larger size (PlateTopper mini and CakeTopper) are planned if this campaign is successful. The current version fits all dinner plate 9.5 inches or larger, which is virtually all dinner plates sold in the US.
The PlateTopper definitely keeps food fresher than tinfoil and plastic wrap, but the same freshness as Tupperware / plastic containers.
Great idea! Do you have smaller ones or just for big plates? Have you also done test how much longer food lasts with the PlateTopper vs like tupperware?
@Arun Thank you! And thanks to all the backers -- we're almost 1/4 of the way there after 3 days.
Feel free to leave public comments or feedback on www.PlateTopper.com.
I Love the idea, seems really useful.
Best of luck. You have my backing :)
For international shipping, the lowest cost of shipping a two-pack or four-pack appears to be $35 and $45 USD, respectively, which would add $25 or $35 to your order. For example, the Family Fun Pack would cost a total of $95 for international shipping. If you are able to find lower rates online, then please post a link. Thank you!
Thank you for the international support! To offer better international shipping rates, I am looking into a company called Shipwire. I will let you know about rates later today -- thanks again!
No joke - was just this week wishing I had something like this. Good luck (and hurry)!
Hi everyone! Thank you for the very generous support in the first 36 hrs since launching!
@Grant Smith: Unfortunately, international shipping is very expensive and difficult to predict for each country. I will send you a personal message to discuss.
Hi Michael, I note you have provided shipping costs for Non-Continental US states and Canada, is shipping for Australia same or add another $5?
I've wanted to support this project for a while.
