5 individuals who yearn to identify themselves by banding together in creating a Bill urging Congress to ban "minority" as a P.C. term.

About the Show

Our names no longer serve as our identifiers once we’re perceived as entities transferable with inferior or second-rate. Existing as “minorities” is confusing as we’re well aware of possessing first-rate potential; resolutions are sought as fervently as children search for identities. MINORITYLAND, the debut production of Power St. Theater Company, explores the minds of five individuals, who much like children, yearn to identify themselves by banding together in creating a Bill urging Congress to ban minority as a politically-correct term. However, they soon realize it’s easier to denounce what they are not, than it is to express who they are.

About Power St.

Power St. Theater Company is dedicated to the community. By being an incubator that creates and produces challenging new works of theater focused on capturing the raw essence of the inner city experience in America. Power St. Theater Company seeks to establish itself as an institution of multicultural and experiential theater.

FAQ

  • The inspiration for the concept of the show was the power of the word. words have a very power impact on people once they begin to identify with them, for better or for worse. as i began to examine the word "Minority" and who associates with the word and who really uses the word as an identifier i began rebel against it. " I'M NOT A MINOR PERSON, I'M MAJOR!" Thus the concept was born. what would happen if EVERY "minority" decided that they were truly apart of the majority? Would this country change?

  • For the bare necessities that theater needs to run.

    1.  THEATER RENTAL- Our show will be at the Asian Arts Initiative, July 25-28th this summer!

    2. REHEARSAL SPACE- Our rehearsal space is going to be at the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philly's Queen Village section

3.INSURANCE- Insurance is a very important necessity for our audience's safety. Small theater companies have to seek out external insurance policies on top of the Theater's policy.

    4. DESIGN ELEMENTS- We need to create the world of the play. We have to marry the script and the design to make this show an EXPERIENCE for our audience.

    5. ADVERTISEMENT- This will supplement for ticket sales and bringing in an audience.

    6. OUTREACH- Before we move into the theater the company is going to be going out into the community and performing previews of the show to inspire and motivate non theatergoers to come out and support POWER ST!
