The Book

The children's book is called 'A World Without Mothers'. It's about what our world would look like if we didn’t have moms around to tell us all the little things. It’s beautifully illustrated, honest, and best of all, a love story.

The Backstory

In 2000, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I was living in San Diego at the time. My brothers called me up on a Thursday morning and told me that my mother was going to have emergency surgery that upcoming Monday to remove cancerous tumors from her body. I was 2,000 miles away with no money or chance of flying home. I had to drive. With the help of a friend, we drove 48 hrs non-stop to make it to the Mayo Clinic in time.

I call that the ‘most important road trip of my life’. It was on the drive that I came face-to-face with the fact that I could be losing my mother and I had taken her for granted. That experience changed my life.

Fortunately, my mother beat cancer and is a survivor! When my mother completed her final chemo-therapy treatment, I promised her that I would write a children’s book dedicated to her.

Over the past few years, I've shared my experience with friends, family and colleagues. I talked about how almost losing my mom helped me cherish her more. In the process, something amazing happened. Everyone who I shared my story with had their own story about their mothers. Some had lost their mothers to cancer, death or simply a misunderstanding. I was blown away. 

No matter your race, class or creed, we all have one thing in common. Mothers. They care for us, nurture, cook, clean, comfort and sometimes get far too little credit. Because of that I decided to make something more than a children’s book. I wanted to create a way for everyone to express how much they love their mothers. Some don’t have a voice or a platform to express the true appreciation for everything that mothers do.

Who is the book for?

Ages 1-99. It's perfect for all families. If you are a mom, have a mom, or know an outstanding mother, you will love this book. I wrote this book to remind all of us of the amazing love mothers have for their children. The goal was to create a book that not only taught kids to appreciate mothers more, but also to help parents think of all of the things their own mothers have done for them.

The Funds

100% of the money will be spent producing the book and the rewards including all production costs, fulfillment and shipping (international shipping extra, see FAQs at bottom of page). Also the funds will be used to pay for additional marketing, illustration, publicity, order fulfillment, and advertising. I have poured my heart, my time and passion into this project and I want to present the book in the best possible way, and finish it right.
