Update #13: That's a wrap!
Hello Backers!
It's been several weeks now since we've completed principal photography on Nov 1st and I think we've finally fully recovered! It was an incredible four days and I'm still reeling (pun intended) from how magically delicious the whole thing was - and is.
Mr Morgan, as you likely remember, is the writer on this project and he wrote a short litle recap that I will paste below...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So how to describe the 4 day shoot? Trap doors were avoided, bullets were dodged, and we slow danced with some luck, with a painful bitemark or two for proof. People showed up, rescuers appeared for those who didn’t, and a crew and cast did what they do so well.
Multiple moments, I stood on set and watched it swirl, fondly considering - as I’ve done before – that this was happening because I put a few words on paper. Astounded and with subdued glee, 'Um…really? Wow' kept bubbling in me.
There are any number of pithy but true quotes about the power and momentum gained by just doing a first simple thing. When Jane and I decided to make this film, the first move was raising the funds. The fact that we raised our budget was…well, honestly, a surprise. Sure we thought it could be done, but still. Along with surprise, it spurred a reaction that was heartening enough to put a piano in one’s throat – something similar (but on a smaller scale) to George Bailey standing in his living room watching people in his life, familiar or not, lay out some hard earned love at his feet. In our case, my first thought was (again) 'Um…really? Wow.'
My second thought was Holy crap! We’ve got to make this thing - and it better be good, or at least not embarrassing. And so we did make this thing - or really just got it on hard drive.
Pre-production was at times tedious, although never boring. Almost every theater production I’ve done, tech and dress rehearsals are usually enough of a clusterbump that everyone in the cast considers faking a stroke to get out of opening night. The difference is that, though theater is live, it is a relatively controlled environment. You don’t have to deal with praying for weather, equipment, traffic between locations, each location with the same list of possible pitfalls, potential injuries, cops (even with permits), crossing the line of what permits permitted and hoping nobody notices, etc. But this is not that, not theater.
And though we didn’t have the acute ‘dress rehearsal panic’ on one night, it did show up spread over the last two weeks. However, like a ball club headed into the playoffs, we made a couple of key acquisitions with time winding down and blazed into the shoot as prepared as we could be – that is, along with the mantra of uh boy, here goes.
And it went, thanks to you. We have raw material to work with that is visually lovely. True moments that actors and director created. So now, on to editing, music, sweetening, and polishing. And the continued feeling of Um…really? Wow keeps on coming.

I put up a post on my blog that talks about my experience - please follow this link to check it out if you like...

Below you'll find some still photos both behind and in front of the scenes, it should give you a great idea of what a wonderful job our DP Mark Mervis did...
And the stills were shot by the lovely Judith Quiones
Now! On to editorial. Our editor Nick Towle is working hard on the first cut. In fact we'll be seeing it later this weekend! I'm excited about it - while we still have to capture a few driving shots and what not, I do think he has the footage to support cutting an amazing film. We'll keep you posted! And you'll be the first to see it when it's complete.
Be sure to contact us if you have any questions about the project thus far. This is your film too, and we'd love to hear from you.
With big love and gratitude!

Update #12: 2 days! 2 days! omg!
Update #11: A Cast! A Cast! Let's shoot!
Update #10: Shooting Dates!
Update #9: Let's talk prizes!
Update #8: We're in production! And it's your fault!
Update #7: 13K Goal Reached! Thank You Backers!!
Wow. We're so thrilled and grateful to say this - we've reached the goal! Even better, eight days before the deadline! Nicely done y'all!
We have so much good news to share. That above fact is of course is
the top one...but here are some more goods:
* We have our DP (Director of Photography). Meetings have begun there.
He's fantastic - you'll be meeting him soon!
* We have our first Behind-the-Scenes videos shot for the DVD.
* Baby Morgan is crawling!
* We are getting ready to start the casting process...really exciting
stuff will be happening in the next few weeks there...
* Last, BUT NOT LEAST, we're going to make a movie!! Wooo-hoo!! And you know what I'm worried about today? Where can we get these REALLY good t-shirts. A
lot of y'all are getting one. :)
Thank you amazing backers for making this happen! We are humbled,
overwhelmed, overjoyed and honored...
Btw if you know anyone else you might like this project, please continue to
pass it along. Any funds above and beyond 13 is hugely helpful to your
t-shirts. (kidding) It will help us pay the crew more (they deserve a
lot more but if we can increase the stipend – great), and also pour
more resources into gear, costumes, props, festival fees, you know - all of it.
Thank you again! A video update coming soon, but in the meantime…wow. Wow!
Truest thanks.
And big love!
Team Morgan
Update #6: I'm a backer, you're a backer, he's a backer! Wouldn't ya like to be a backer too?
Hello fine and fabulous backers (and people considering our noble cause) - oh wow how we appreciate your kindness and enthusiasm. Big shout out to all of the new backers in recent days, Hellloooo! Hooraaay! Welcome! We are truly honored and thrilled to have your support.
Hey we have a fun idea. In the spirit of what our backers Matt and Steve did for us, how about some testimonials from you guys? We will create a little video with all of the love in one spot. So if you would like to participate, here's three options of what you can do....
a) Send us a line or two of why you think this project is worth backing. And a still shot of you if you like!
b) OR Do a 'Matt and Steve" and use your computer's video recording functionality (Mac users: Photobooth is built in and records video!) - Say a few words and then email us the file.
c) OR If you live in LA and have some time this Sunday late morning or early afternoon - come over to our backer Scott's place and put yourself on tape talking about why you put some money where our cause is. It will be a super quick thing and we'll provide snacks! Mmmm, snacks.
Endless thanks and love to you all as we swing into the final few weeks. Thanks again for believing in us, we're getting really excited to shoot soon!
Big love,
Team Morgan
Photo included is a still from the video that Matt and Steve sent us. Only Backers saw it in the exclusive video update so we wanted to share widely. :)
Update #5: Happy New Year! We did it!
Hello everyone - I hope your holiday season is wrapping up with warmth and beauty and was all around a yummy time for you.
As you can see little Santa asked big Santa to put our movie postcard with the Kickstarter URL on it in everyone's stocking. It appears it worked!
Santa delivered because the Matt and Steve PBS-style campaign was successful, we met their challenge grant to find 1,113 dollars by today....and passed it! Since they issued their challenge we've seen the numbers climb by 1,478 dollars. Hooray! So thank you thank you to our newest backers, we are so very thrilled and grateful.
Fingers crossed, we may have an EP coming on board soon - and then we'll be within range of our goal. Deep cleansing breath! And you know, we gotta say it..thanks as always for sharing the good word about a good movie with a good friend (or two). Your passion combined with our passion and a few bucks from a bunch of people is what is going to make this movie happen. Thank you for believing in us!
Also a special shout out to our new Associate Producer from Seattle, can't wait to see what costume you'll wear in the movie! :)
Big love in the big 10.
