MEET THE ZILLAS has been gestating since 2010 and is finally at the point at which all we need is the funding to proceed. Of all the projects I've done to date, this is the one I am most passionate about and I hope the video conveys why. (If not, I've listed the reasons below... :)

What is MEET THE ZILLAS?

The short film, MEET THE ZILLAS is a high art, deliciously absurdist comedy and poignant fable about a town called Zillatown where everyone is wedding-obsessed but not everyone is allowed to marry. In this town, girls with the last name “Zilla” must be tested for the “Zilla gene”. If they test positive, they are forbidden to marry let alone interact with anything “bridal” for fear that they will have a “Zilla reaction” and wreak havoc on the town. When a “Zilla” dares to get married, Mayor Leslie (played by DREW DROEGE) leads a crusade to stop it and the ensuing clash is heard ’round the world. (The moral of the story is of course, "everyone should be able to marry, to have equal rights - even a Zilla.)

MEET THE ZILLAS is written and directed by MOREEN LITTRELL and will be lensed by RICARDO JACQUES GALE who has won awards at Cannes, Melbourne and Toronto film fests for his cinematography. It stars Emmy-nominated BLAKE BERRIS (“Billy Vyle”), DREW DROEGE (“Mayor Leslie”) who is a teacher at most famous school of improv, The Groundlings, and famous for his Chloe Sevigny-impersonated videos, and very funny comedians BRANDON MOYNIHAN (“Dick Zilla”), LESLIE TAYLOR (“Carole Zilla”), DANA MOON (“Ginger Zilla”), and LITTRELL (“Cinder Zilla”).

MEET THE ZILLAS presents a very cinematic opportunity in wardrobe, make-up and set design. The look is "part bridal wonderment part ’80s Punk". On board to convey same through costume design is JADE THOMPSON, a FIDM star whose work has already graced some Project Runway alum collections.

With a successful Kickstarter campaign, MEET THE ZILLAS is projected to shoot in March/April 2012 in Los Angeles under a SAG contract. We intend to submit to major film festivals and get a very positive response!

Why do I want to make this film?

1.     The script. It’s very, very funny - from premise to characters to dialogue - and poignant. When you have a bridal-obsessed town led by a Mayor (DREW DROEGE in drag) who endeavors to keep a Zilla from getting married, the clash that ensues is one of over the top good vs. evil and hilarity. Think The Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Stepford Wives in terms of campy vs. uptight theme and characters. But there are also key moments that will make you "feel" more than just laughter, the kind that inspires and has you rooting.

2.     It’s unique - from premise to the look of the film. I love the visually unique masterpieces of Amelie and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Amadeus to name a few, so it has always been my desire to make a film that aspires to this level of visual decadence.  And fortunately, Meet the Zillas presents a huge opportunity for a highly cinematic experience. As such, we have an ambitious vision for costuming and set design for Zillatown and all its residents - albeit, on a small budget.

3.     It’s a fable. There is a profound and timely moral of the story - which is that everyone (even a Zilla) should be able to marry.

4.     It has ‘80s inspired music and dance (but is not a musical), Gaga-inspired attitude, and a few mobs including flash. What could be better?

5.     It may be the only wedding I ever get to plan. Don’t muss it up for me.

The funding goal of $10,000 will pay for:

• 5 - 6 days of shooting consisting of seven locations
  
• Crew (an award-winning Cinematographer, Sound Recordist, Sound Mixer, Gaffer, Production Asst., Prop Master, Colorist, ET AL!
  
• Ambitious Set Design
  
• Ambitious Costume Design
  
• Music composing/licensing
  
• Food for cast and crew each day as required by law and in accordance to SAG contract
• Location permits for a couple of key scenes
• 10% goes to Kickstarter and Amazon for the service fees
  
• Whatever I've forgotton!
  

The funding goal of $10,000 will NOT pay for:

• Talent (actors) - on deferred basis per SAG contract. 
  
• Writing, Editing or Directing of Moreen Littrell
