Update #12: Sag Harbor
We had a great trip to Sag Harbor on Long Island this last weekend. We interviewed Joe Pintauro, who helped Algren get settled in Sag Harbor in 1980 and, sadly, arranged his funeral in 1981. We also interviewed Suzanne McNear, a writer and former editor for Playboy and a long-time friend of Algren. She gave us the badly needed woman's perspective that we needed so badly!
We are ready to start editing--stay tuned for more updates. And go to Montrose Pictures and Facebook for more information!
Michael is interviewing Joe in the cemetery in front of Nelson's grave--it was a stunning weekend.
Update #11: Our summer
We have raised over $8,000 through PayPal, which is helping us fund our two trips to the East Coast! We are heading off to upstate New York tomorrow (assuming Irene has passed by then), to interview Russell Banks, the acclaimed novelist and friend of Nelson Algren, as well as Algren's good friend, Roger Groening.
We also interviewed Billy Corgan this summer, who is a huge Algren fan, and had great insights into the world that Algren described and into Algren's remarkable artistry. (Nice photo of Michael Caplan, Billy, and Art Shay.)
And remember...

Update #10: To all Algren supporters!
Algren would like to thank you for showing your support, yet we did not reach our goal through Kickstarter. Therefore, we have created a means by which you may donate instead on our website page at www.montrosepictures.com. Once there you can transfer your donation to our Pay Pal button by August 1, 2011. Thanks again for your interest. We continue to be available at www.montrosepictures.com or our Facebook page Algren-the Movie.
Sincerely,
Gail H. Sonnenfeld

Update #9: Attention Algren supporters!
Update #8: July 11 Update
Thanks to everyone for your support of our Algren-The Movie! This has been an exciting process, which has resulted in our creating a worldwide Algren community. However, we did not meet our ultimate goal, which means Kickstarter will not provide the money and it will be credited back to you. Since you have shown interest in our project we would ask you to transfer your contribution directly to our website by August 1st, 2011, since we are planning our final round of interviews for late this summer and need funds to make it happen. Please, go to the front page of our website www.montrosepictures.com. There you will find a Pay Pal button and your options to continue your support.* We will be keeping the same incentives as presented on the Kickstarter page.
As a supporter of our project you will keep receiving updates regarding the project as we continue our journey of completing Algren-The Movie. We continue to work on the documentary in order to meet our 2012 completion date. Thank you again for helping us to make Algren-The Movie an exciting adventure and a production for future generations to view.
Sincerely,
Michael, Gail, Nicole and Gunther
*Check contributions can be made-out to Montrose Pictures at 4916 Whipple Street, Chicago, IL 60625.
